Super Smash Bros. Brawl Preview
Super Smash Bros. Brawl Preview

The release date saga of Super Smash Brothers Brawl continues in Australia with no official date in sight, but it isn't stopping folks importing one of the most hyped titles this year. We fall into that category and thought we'd just taunt everyone that little bit more by giving you a preview of what you can expect in Brawl.
While the character roster has changed and the new over the top Final Smash has been brought into play, the core of the game is very much the same as Melee. But then again Melee wasn't broken so why fix it in Brawl? It feels a lot easier to pull moves in Brawl though we didn't have time to check if the game has actually been slowed down compared to Melee. The Final Smash moves are an interesting inclusion and thankfully do not decide the ultimate winner of a match. Yes they're incredibly powerful, very cool to watch, and make the fighter who cops the damage a lot more likely to be bashed off the screen, but pure raw fighting skill can still swing the match back.

All of the characters have a much more unique feeling in Brawl and you'll make your choices more carefully than you have in the past. We're gonna save the full rant on fighters for our review (when the game gets released...) we will talk about one. The Pokemon Trainer it's probably one of the most unique characters in the game, as you will actually be battling with 3 classic Pokemons and be able to swtich on the fly between them. If you've played Melee you'll know the Ice Climbers for their two fighters on screen at the same time play style, but the Pokemon Trainer takes this to a whole new level. All three Pokemon have fairly unique characteristics but share what you could call a core skill set, so you can jump between them quite comfortably but then put each one to use with its unique traits.

We still haven't given online multiplayer a good bash but so far it's played pretty well, and looks to be one of the more enjoyable online experiences on Wii. The Subspace Emersery mode is also included, playing as a (basic) plot driven campaign built on adventure mode from Melee. Think Mario Brothers combined with Brawl and you get the idea.
Super Smash Brothers Brawl is really packed full of content, so when it finally hits Australian shelves, expect a lot of replay value out of it. It's too bad we can't finish this preview off with 'Brawl will be in stores on....' but we still don't have a release date! In time friends, in time!
