its to make holding the controller horizontally more comfortable. its not 'inventing' an accessory. the front end of the remote is not as thick as the base (where the nunchuk port is), and it CAN be awkward to hold it.

Yeah im not a fan either. I say this with no offence intended .. but it looks a little PS doesnt it with the hand grips. But even still it doesnt have 50 billion buttons which is good.

Hmm... Well it's pointless but then useful. Personally I think it depends on the game your playing. Surely TLOZ: Twilight Princess won't need this. Otherwise it'd be a bit hard doing most things... But who knows.
