Your avatar when made will be uploaded to photobucket.com, from there follow these simple steps
1. Go to the photobucket link I have posted
2. right click. then save target as.
3. Save to desired location on computer
4. Click Mii, then edit profile.
5. Click edit profile and click browse (this is finding the picture)
6. Congrats

right click and save the file to your computer.
Then in your profile you can upload it.

It is really nice of you to be doing this, but I'd suggest that you don't continue using the Gallery to distribute them. If you end up making a whole heap of these, the gallery is just going to get over-run by tiny little avatar pics. It's happened before, and it makes for un-happy admins. 
Use an image hosting site like photobucket. Then either link to it in this thread, or post the actual pic.
