Personally I think it's the strap leading you into a false sense of security. I admit I was holding with a relatively loose grip when it happened, which is why I doubt nintendo will pay for any breakages (except perhaps repacing broken Wiimotes). The bottom line is you should hold the thing tightly, strap on no strap.

i agree..... down right negligence on the owners behalf. there is just no way i've even felt close to losing my grip on the WiiMote.

The remote will only fly off if you are using it to rough, it's more sensitive in game then you think!
My mate and I were talking about these accidents the other day. We concluded that during Beta testing many remotes would have gone out windows and broke TV's before they decided...Hmm maybe we need to ship the console with a wrist strap or first aid kit.
