Wii Hardware \ People say if you have a wii cooling fan you wii will last longer. Is that true?

People have been saying to me that if you have a wii cooling fan on your wii it will last longer and work better but is that true because i dont know if i need one or not.

The Wii's only real issue with overheating is leaving Wii Connect24 on as when the consoles off there's no fans so it keeps it warm in which case the cooling fan wouldn't be in use anyway.
