Guys im running Windows XP Pro. I have SP2 on CD which I got from a mate who which got it sent to him from M$OFT. I have never installed it, should I install it??

I wouldn't install it from that disc. Go to the MS website and download it. Make sure you do all the windows updates and boo yah should all be fine!

It is reccomended that you do an install of SP2

If you are using a fake copy of windows just don't do windows updates after SP2 or it will catch you.

I ordered SP2 as well, this was when it came out and dial up was common so 100mb was BS to download.

You won't have a problem isntalling off the CD i've done it numerous times. If you have 2 hard drives and the second one is bigger I suggest unhooking it. When I did my PC my 2nd HDD was bigger and windows puts its temp files on the larger drive, it then couldn't find them (even when I told it where to look) and broke the installation...had to format.

Also uninstallion of SP2 is NOT a good idea. The system rolls back but I'm sure you'll find many things break and you'll end up formatting. I've never seen it go back happily.

There might be a pirate amoung us that might know...but when you install it you have to pass validation before it does anything.

I'd only get vista if your PC is a higher spec (2gb ram, core2duo etc) otherwise it can run like a dog and if you are prepared for some buggy issues.
So far I can't recommend Vista over XP, for me Vista just isn't up to par yet...compatability is a BIG issue still with lots of stuff and its a resource w**re.
Your choice mate.

Also www.videolan.org/ (VLC Player) is awesome for video's and DVD's. There aren't too many formats it can't play and you don't even need Divx plus its free.

If you are willing to buy Vista buy XP instead, it's pretty cheap now.

I Laugh in your general direction No you should not get vista. The only reason I run Vista is work bought me a copy of Ultimate to use and test and see what is good/bad with it (gotta love working for a IT company)

If you download a torrent of WMP11 I'm sure there's a cracked one out there

There is a copy of Win Xp including all the updates till July and WMP 11 that ive seen before.
So u can instal it if u want but later on u will have probs seeing how its not a legit copy and it will keep telling ya its not a legit copy
