But seriously, check eBay. Look for an MP3 player that uses removable media like SD cards or MicroSD cards. The cards are dirt cheap from eBay ($30-40 for a 1GB Micro SD), and the media being removable lets you have lots and lots of music.

EDIT: Actually, I've done the search for you. Just over AU$20, seller in Melbourne. Unit looks about 5cm wide, with small LCD display. I'd have gotten one like this a long time ago, but a DS Lite with a Flash Cart handles multimedia admirably.
