Virtual Console & WiiWare \ Why Do VC Games Pause When Quitting

This i believe is a big problem. Some people might not see the issue, but certain games will be made a lot easier by this. For example, playing Donkey Kong Country 2, i massed about 22 lives or so by the 4th world which is when i started dieing. So i saved the game to come back later, went back to the Wii main menu, and when i went back to the game, it resumed straight off. I didnt even need to save it, it just paused the ROM with all my lives intact, making the game way too easy. I ended up reseting the software and loading the game normally.

I think this is a serious issue that Nintendo needs to deal with in a future patch. What do you all think?

Sounds a bit like the old action replay, it does take some of the challenge out of beating the game, but I kind of like it because recently I don't have the time to sit there and hack at a game like I used to.

Thats the suspending play feature so you can lead most VC games when ever and contiune from where you left off, if you want to load from a save in the game you have to reset the software, personally I think its great and really helpful if you don't have time to save

It's just totally stupid. If you had the console in real life, playing the game properly, it wouldnt happen like that. It makes games far too easy now. I love playing old games and because i havent played them in years, they are a fresh new challenege. Now i have to save the game properly, then reset the software, THEN go back to the Wii menu. Even if i just save the game and turn off the machine, which would have usually reset the software if you owned it originally, it just pauses the game and removes all the challenge from it whatsoever. It's totally rediculous. I feel like anyone taking advantage of this feature just sucks at the game and needs any sort of advantage. Sonic doesnt have a save option mywiisites? How do you go about finishing the game without having a marathon sitting.

I bet they had to do it if they originally bought the game. Besides, how many games out there don't have a save feature. Probably a few earlier games, but that was the only thing that made them challenging. Nintendo seem to think that people need an advantage or something like as we get older we start sucking at games. I've already e-mailed Nintendo to try to get a response. Stay Tuned lol.

Lol, just little things in the later parts of that world with the Bee Hives. I don't mind dieing in the game, it's been like a decade since i finished it last so it's like it's a challenge all over again. It's a good thing. But there is no challenge if all the lives i've gathered from earlier in the game where it was dead easy just stay with me forever instead of resetting to 4 after saving it. It totally negates the need for the banana coins. Why would Nintendo go and make such a stupid mistake. People don't suck at games as they get older, they get better at them. This is the only big mistake i have seen Nintendo make with the Wii.

Are you seriously complaining that the system doesn't lose all of your progress when you quit???

It's a brilliant feature... I can play a game 5 minutes at a time... I haven't had time to sit at a game for 5 hours since I was a school kid...

Maybe what you should ask for is an option to turn off the auto-save/suspend play... If it was optional us normal ppl would be happy, and you psycho "must only be allowed to complete in one sitting" ppl would be happy....

I hate to cheat, and this an issue that needs fixing. It's pretty much giving you no option but to cheat.

I might be misunderstanding here... I haven't got a VC title yet...

Am I right in thinking you're complaining that if you quit a game then come back later it picks up where u left off (i.e. U played the game on your NES, paused it, turned the TV off for 8 hours then come back, turn on the TV, and keep playing)?

how is it cheating? its taking a freeze frame of exaclty where you left off. it's as if you've never left the game when you start it up again. you've earned those lives so i don't see it as cheating. if its that much of a deal, get to the save point and then power off your wii, so it'll be just like the old days getting up off the couch to reset your snes.

The intent is that you can walk away from a game and come back to it later. I don't see how that is cheating any more than a pause button is.

Perhaps you can use it to cheat somehow but that is your choice, not what the feature is for.

Personally I'm enjoying using it to make my way through R-Type 3 bit by bit.

If you really don't like it try just turning the wii off in the VC game don't go back to the home menu and it might not save where you left off as from what I understand it suspends the play from the point your at when you go back to the wii menu

Is there no reset option within games??

I personally like the idea of pausing your progress, but I can see how it would be a problem if someone else shares your wii and wants to start a new game...

I really don't understand what your problem is Foetoid. The suspend feature really is a good idea, but the option is there to reset the software if you want. Everyone can play the game the way they want, and yet you think it is broken?

Is it really that hard to reset the software? Or do you want to have to blow into the wii before you start a NES game, just so you can get that authentic experience?
