Wii Hardware \ Does the wii have USB Keyboard Support?

jayp2p says:

Hi guys,

as my question is mentioned above, does the wii support the use of a USB keyboard for the Opera internet browser?

Thanks

Has anyone ever tried?
I've wondered but use PS2 keyboard so I can't test.

The only real difference between a keyboard and Wiiboard would maybe be a couple of home buttons etc...internally shouldn't work any different.

...Someone with a USB board give it a try!

Yeah I think most of us would...someone has to try this and find out.

I guess the main thing that will stop it working are drivers, if anything Nintendo would release drivers for the Wiiboard in a firmware upgrade.

well i have tried a usb keyboard but the thing was it was a wireless but if anyone has a wired usb keyboard please let us all know. I'm quite suprised no one has tried but i guess most people would be using ps/2 connections for their pc's.

telljoolz says:

Theres a type of software called a driver.

A driver allows hardware to be recognised by software.

For the keyboard to work, you would need a Wii keyboard driver.

So the answer is no not yet. Not even external USB hard drives are recognised. The only hardware I know of that is recognised by the USB ports of the Wii, is the Wireless to Ethernet LAN adaptor.

I doubt it'll work. If it does it'll be big news though, so my theory is if it does work how come no one on the internet has mentioned it already?

works for me =)

if u just use normal...non complicated keyboard yeah it works. it dont need drivers. if u have one with like u know...internet button, music player button, email button etc it needs various drivers from windows..but just simple keyboard doesnt need drivers (well it does but wii must have generic driver inbuilt) .

Surely soon someone will program a couple of crude drivers that will allow most buttons on a keyboard to work!!!!!!!
