Who has changed from PC to a MAC and what is the difference?
What are the pros and cons of macs?
And if i was about to get a Macbook 1599$ version, will it be outdated really quick, should i wait for next gen Macbook or buy this one.
For example i was about to buy a iPod 4th Gen, luckily I didn't because the 5th gen is such a huge improvement from the 4th gen. If i was stuck with 4th gen..

appreciate answers from anyone

PC will allways dominate MAC. Reason why is because you can do a a lot more stuff. A lot of programs are made for PCs. But I would love to see more stuff written for Macs like games and such.

MAC's cost more but generally last as long as you want to flog it. Mainly because they do not follow the same "technological lifecycle" that Windows has which is every 3 years. People will also say that it's because of the build quality of their parts which I believe to be pretty true.
So on a PC new Windows in 3 years, generally forces an upgrade etc.
Mac don't have as many security issues, but MS has had 80% of the market for the last decade so that's just a side effect of their dominance.
MAC's are great at multimedia, I much rather one for that line of work. Gaming I rather PC for compatibility reasons.

You can emulate and I believe dual boot Windows on a MAC, so if you got one it's win win really.
Hope that helps!

PCs are more future proof and more widely compatible. I will always stick with PCs for that reason.

I never agreed with an Apple product because I think you're essentially paying for the marketing. Consider the iMac: it was underpowered, it had no floppy drive (at a time when every other computer did), it had only two USB ports. And yet it cost more than an equivalent PC. Consider the iPod: it does the same job as any other MP3 player (or MP4 player, if you want to go into multimedia capability), but costs anywhere from $50 to $300 more than an equivalent product. It's nuts. At least the iPod is well-designed (clickwheel is win).

Apple pc's are sexy. But there not generally practical for the reasons desi said. Bring the cost down to match a pc and that changes, more people use it, more software will be made for it.

Never buying a pc again. Im looking to buy the new 3500$ macbook pro. Ive had a lot of probelms with pcs. If you get a virus on a pc it could be over until you wipe it, on a mac, u dont get a virus they have few security issues. With software, pc has most of it, including games but what else do you need besides office. Mac can run a Windows operating system and the only reason im doing that is to play the odd game

Viruses and other malware attacking Windows systems is what comes with majority market share. Anyway, the idea is prevention: firewalls, malware scanning. Not opening files whose source you don't trust is usually enough. The only malware I've ever picked up is whatever someone who was using my computer had introduced. Like my sister opening a .bat file after being told it was a picture, and me having to spend two hours removing SubSeven from the system.

I have been a pc guy for the last 20 years starting on an old 386. I have built, supported, networked these pc's for years now. And 1 month ago and stood up and said no more.....no more sleepless nights, no more loss of hair...no more PC!!!!! I went and bought myself the Top of the range MacBookPro. That was a big leap of faith! And it was sooooooooo worth it. They just keep running! I have not had 1 problem with it yet. I can run windows for those apps that I have to run but there normally is an equivalent program out there..! Im hooked. Im changing all my pc's in my house over to Mac ow. They really are that good. Easy to use, no poblems, no virus'. I actually find myself thinking there is something wrong...because there is nothing wrong!!

Do yourself a favour! Go get one!

Some things you say are true, others are not. I work in a Windows Based Company, have used PC's my whole life, and I recently got the $1500 macbook (the one bankrupt said) and I have to say I'm nothing but happy with it!

PC's are great, and will always be there. And I will never get rid of my PC for the fact that it's compatible with everything, it's very easy (and cheap) to upgrade and I use it as a media and gaming powerhouse

But after getting my mac I notice I only use my PC for gaming now. Why? Because Mac just works so well. Everything I've needed for my PC I can get on mac, like Citrix for instance (PM me if you want to learn more about Citrix or setting it up)

Also EA and ID have signed on to having simultaneous releases for ALL of their games on Windows and Mac, which does give me thoughts of buying their Quadcore machine and throwing in an 8800GTX

And to confirm DSreaper's comment, yes you can dual boot a mac with XP, Vista, Linux, Free BSD anything you like really. And also you can run Parallels which is pretty much like VMware but works extremely well, yet I haven't had a reason to do either yet!

Hope this helps out

I work with Macs but have a PC at home. I first started with Macs and thought theyre the BOMB!! lol but as the years have passed ive tended to hate them more and more... Theyre just so gay when it comes to uninstalling things man is it a pain in the ass...
Wheres the "uninstall button" like on Pc's and if u by any chance delete something u shouldnt have on a mac (because this is the only way u can uninstall a program) well.... then ur in big probs....

Even thought i use them at work for graphic design/mac operating
Id still go for PC for a number of reason.

1 Theyre cheaper
2 They much more user friendly
3 U can upgrade as much as u want
4 Use a varierty of parts brands and models
5 There are more games and appz for PC

With that said, ive better get back to work and use my IMAC G5 lol

Mac's are not worth the money they are asking for.

I own an old iMac, I think it's cool to look at, cool for something different, but that's where it ends. The OS is frustrating and confusing. Multitasking isn't very good.

The original post in this discussion asked as to whether it will be outdated if they do buy a Mac: It won't really get outdated, just the OS keeps being upgrade every month. Essentially since the Mac OS X came out, it has looked identical among all of the versions, except for added extras. From what i've seen of the Tiger OS X, it looks identical except for a few extras over Panther, which is the OS X I'm using.

I've sat down and used my Mac for many hours on end, trying to find out everything about using a Mac and Apple's OS. I fix computers for a living and thought I would take a shot at a Mac.

I believe if the costs weren't so high, I think people would be more inclined to purchase a Mac. Given the current trends of Apple, PC's will always dominate the market as being cheaper and easier to use.

Nah, Tiger is the latest version - 10.4. Panther is 10.3. It's funny, Leopard looks like it has copied some of the features of Vista, like Windows Aero.

I forgot to mention, the only thing good that has come from OS X is the ObjectDock, which I use for Windows XP. I don't even bother using the multitasking ability of objectdock, since it is a little confusing, but it's great for just hanging icon shortcuts.
