Wii Hardware \ Rechargeable battery recommendations wanted

Does anyone have any advice in regards to rechargeable batteries and rechargers for the Wii, either ones to get or ones to avoid?

I understand Nintendo say only Nickel Metal Hydride batteries should be used if you are going to use rechargeables.

Is it worth going for higher mAh batteries if they are more expensive?

Do "Fast chargers" degrade the battery more than normal ones?
Are all modern (brand name) chargers "intelligent" rather than just timer based?

I am not really interested in the Wii-specific recharge/battery kits.

I've got a Wii charger/dock, it's pretty cool but definitely doesn't last as long as standard batteries.

Last night 3 hours of DBZ took a fully charged remote down 1 bar.
My not seem that much but i've used batteries that last much longer.

After looking at the alternatives in store I got a Dick Smith fast charger and some extra 2000mAh batteries.

My reasoning was:
-Cheaper.
-Was the only one with enough information on the box to tell you what it's capabilies are (ie -ve delta-voltage switch off).
-Was the only one where the plug wasn't designed so as to get in the way of neighbouring sockets.

So cheap, informative and well designed beat out expensive, flashy and ill-thought out. Was a bit of a no-brainer in the end.

Like Diabollus, I too use Varta 15 minute rechargeable batteries. I use them for my digital camera as well. Love 'em.

It was still about ~$55-60, so not dodgy-cheap, just cheaper than the other brand name fast chargers (which seemed to be $80+).

As I understand it a good charger will turn off if:
a) It detects the battery getting too hot.
b) It detects the battery is full (apparantly something happens to the voltage of a fully charged battery that a charger can detect).

A "cheap" charger might just use a timer and possibly overcharge and damage a battery, making it perform badly.

A good one will probably also have a timer, but it is just an additional fail safe.

The one I got was
www.dse.com.au/
and I also got an extra four batteries of the same sort.

Afterwards I found some reviews/guides and the DSE (which are apparantly Digitor) batteries seem to come out pretty good:

I use Duracell 26h0mAh batteries.
$11 for 2 AAs.
Well worth it, it is worth paying extra for higher mAh.

Higher capacity batteries do make a difference for me. It means more time between charging which for me (though minor) is an inconvenience.

I have used a few different brand but found Inca 2600 mHa from Ted's Camera Store to be the best so far, and not too badly priced either.

Inca products are focused on Digital Cameras (usually the most demanding devices of batteries), so my logic is that Inca think they are good enough for digital cameras then they are good enough for a less demanding device like a Wii remote.

I'm thinking of getting energizer's charger for AA and AAA.
Apparently it can charge the NiMH batteries in around 1 hour.
I dunno if that's true but I'll find out.
