The 10-15 year life expectancy of the batteries in NES/SNES/GB carts is well and truely up. Carts will now start to lose save data when they are removed from the console.
I am in the process of replacing the batteries in a handfull of my SNES carts, that continuously lose save data.
It saddens me that I have to do this; because:
1) It's not an easy job, you have to de-solder the clip that holds the battery in place, replace the battery, and re-solder.
and
2)I lose all of my save files. I'm not going to do it to all of my carts untill the erase themselves, but still - i'm going to lose them eventually.
I'm curious as whether Ninty will compensate for this.
I might give them a ring. I'm not expecting anything, but it would be nice.
Anyone else experiencing this/experienced this?
I know that a lot of carts appearing on eBay will need this proceedure done, especially the early carts.
Nearly all Mario World 1 carts will go through his fairly soon, if they haven't already.
