How good was that, I don't like Melbourne very much, but for the state of the game they needed the grand final to be played there.

Still going for Newy, they knocked out my team.

While i'm a very proud born and bred Melbournian i won't be shedding any tears if the Victory get done in the GF. It's their organisation that are holding up the new rectangular stadium for the Melbourne Storm and others because they're deluded enough to think they'll sustain the crowds they are now in years to come.

When the success dries up then so will the crowds it's inevitable. Soccer supporters are by far the most fickle of any football code and that's shown once again with the reigning premiers (Sydney) crowds being down by a couple of thousand on last year. Soccer fans only like a winner, where were the Victory crowds last year when they were in the bottom half of the ladder? There was only half the amount as what there is this year and you can expect them to turn their backs once again when they start losing.

Call me cynical, call me what you will as i don't really care. The only thing i do care about is the new stadium being built for my beloved Storm and those living in fairyland at the Victory have already held it up for over a year by not signing something they already agreed to. In fact i hope they get done in the finals

Well I think you are being a little harsh, for the first season it would be hard for any team to get crowds if they weren't winning. The storm didn't have big crowds all last year, early on was pretty sad, then all of a sudden they were winning and getting big crowds.

Your exactly right people don't like to support a losing team, but I bet you win or lose in the GF, Victory will have a big crowd come next seasons first game.

Its been a common fact in Australian sport that supporters come out of the woodwork, look at Parramatta, most of their fans are made of Penrith, Dogs and Die hard Eels fans. If the Eels are winning they all jump ship, thats just how it is.

Soccer is growing in this country, and really has the potential to have bigger crowds and more supporters then both AFL and NRL, remember its the world game.

I was going to reply harshly but I will hold back *deep breathes*

There is no f---ing way I want my team to sign to a 20,000 seater stadium. Its an absolute joke.

We have 15,000 members.

There might be a lot of bandwagoners to get us up to the 40k or 50k but tell me who would fork out $160 for a membership unless they were hardcore?

If melbourne signed up for the 20k seater it would be a joke, there will be lockouts every home game, and people will be severely pissed off.

I dont care if support drops down to just me and the other member above.

A 20k stadium is a joke. The storm and Melbourne can do it without the Victory if they want.

They are constantly making snide remarks about our members, support and ability - but then want us to put pen to paper.

Well f--- your 20k seater stadium and your cynicism

soccer fans are fickle? Please any team in any sport that does great gets better crowds. Melbourne came 7th and you said their crowds were half? Yes, thats a miserable 15,000 to 25,000 per game, a crowd that most rugby league teams would be proud of. Melbourne season ticket holders will crack the 20,000 mark next year. No offense, but this 'less crowd' thing happened with your Storm. Don't compare rugby league to soccer....soccer fans get fanatical and passionate. League fans come and go. I have a box at parramatta stadium and the same thing happens. They go good they get 20,000 to a good team, they go **** and they get 12,000.
Sydney hasn't got good crowds because they played ****...and I'm from sydney! Newcastle played great, Mariners played good and they both got great crowds. Heck, Qld played **** and got 32,000 to their last game.

The A-League is here to stay. Go the Jets!!!

Ummmm hello! You asked me a rhetorical question on whether soccer fans are fickle and you obviously don't think they are, yet a few lines down you say Sydney hasn't got good crowds because they played ****. What do you call that? It's called FICKLE and you just proved my point lol.

I'm well aware that all sports have teams that are fickle and i never said they didn't but soccer has proven time and time again that they are the worst in that regard. That's proven by the fact that every league before the A league has failed. I'm not saying the A League will head the same way, but for a sport who doesn't have to compete against any other football code in the summer, overall the crowds aren't really that great when you look at it.

I see the Melbourne Storms crowds were mentioned but if you used your brain you'd know that Melbourne is not a rugby league town and more importantly, it's up against the biggest sport by far and watched by millions more per season than any other sport and that's AFL. It's one thing for soccer to hide in their little summer spot by themselves, but bring them out with the big boys of football and you'd soon see how insignificant soccer really is in this country.

Well they shouldn't have agreed to it then and there wouldn't have been a problem. They reneged on a verbal agreement that should never have made. A compromise of 27,500 has been offered to the Victory and they're still stalling so i say f*ck them off and bulid the stadium without them with the stipulation they NEVER be allowed to play there.

You and all your deluded soccer hooligans light think that's fine now, but when the Victory won't be able to pay the exhorbitant bills the Telstra Dome demands to play there through lack of crowds in seasons to come then don't come crying to us, we'll still let you play at Olympic Park lol. Oh good luck in the GF, don't go lighting any flares now will you? It something the Victory fans seem to do very well

If we are getting crowds above 27k why they hell would we settle for a stadium that can only hold that?
Its the second year of the A league, its only going to get bigger.
I think if Melbourne storm could fill the telstra dome there wouldnt be so much bitching in this thread.

Besides, victory didnt win a pre-season game and we still had around 10k members join at the start of the season.
Victory supporters are full of passion and memberships and game attendance will only increase.

Hahahaha keep dreaming knackers, if you think the Victory are going to be pulling these types of crowds when you start losing you're even more deluded that the tools running the club. Do you honestly think you'll stay on top forever? I only ask because you'll need to to keep the crowds.

Where were they all last year when you were sitting in the bottom half of the ladder? They certainly weren't at the games. Oh that's right they were too busy making petitions to get rid of the coach and pretty much hang him. Yet these are the same ones that are calling him their savior now. Victory supporters aren't only fickle and deluded, they're also hypocrites as well. Can you name me one sport other than soccer that have to seperate opposition supporters? Neanderthals.

There's an old saying, be nice to people when you're on the way up because they're the same people you're going to pass on your way down. Victory and their flare throwing hooligan supporters would do very well to remember that

This has been funny to read through people say one thing then half way through their post they do a total 180 and say the total opposite.

Ficklness is part and parcel of any sport there will be people that fein interest and dwindle off all the time in every club.

I think the main concern with Sydney is that they did make it to the finals and still only 22,000 supporters turned up, even if there are bandwagoners out there you think they would have turned up to a finals game, league pulls over 30,000 people per game for finals game stadium capacity coming into account there.

mick1681, arn't the boxes for corporate events? You mean season ticket holder right? Unless your in the minority of this forum and are over the age of 18.

Regardless of if we win or lose the victory have a large number of supporters that will follow them.
Im going to assume that you have never been to a game, because if you had you would understand what i am saying.
And if you responce to that is 'i wouldnt waste my time etc etc' perhaps you shouldn't waste your time reading a post that is cleary about a sport you dislike.
Because Essendon and Carlton were crap last year, do you think that means supporters didnt go to the games?
The game standards of the A league are getting higher.
There was still a massive packed crowd at the td when australia was playing cricket at the mcg, interesting hey?! ha ha ha

Im not really into Afl but just because they get bigger stadiums and more crowds than A league it doesnt mean im going to go bag it out. Get over it dude.

And in reference to the flare throwing hooligans, i havent seen a flare lit in the td, but i may have been too busy hearing about nfl players hitting girls in the face at the 7 11. lol
