Looks like another modchip is on its way. A better one. Still no homebrew. BUT its upgradable! So all your brick-fans out there can agree, this one could never brick your Wii.

Also, it wont play NTSC games on a PAL console. Yet.

So maybe this chip + Freeloader could be the answer to everyones piracy prayers?

Me, Im still waiting for a Wii homebrew chip. Enjoy!

it plays all NTSC games on an NTSC console eg: USA will be able to play Japanese imports. Currently you cannot play Jap imports on US consoles.

Aus will not be able to play any of them until it is upgraded via its firmware or a freeloader or unless you import a console as well.

Why can't game companies get off their asses and make some way to stop piracy for good? It pisses of people who actually buy real products to support the companies... ._.

Well, me anyway.

If it were possible they would have done it by now. Any system like this that is made by made can be broken by man.

If the manufacturers and publishers just sell games really cheap (say $25?), and remove region locking, then they could crush piracy and probably make more money (of course piracy can never be eliminated completely).

The retail price for a new game is around $80-100. Think of it, your collection of 5 new Wii games is as expensive as your Wii console. no wonder piracy is rampant.

It's easy to see why a lot of people would use these mod chips.

I agree, if they made the prices cheaper, games would be more affordable to most people. Or if they made the games actually worth the $90 price mark, that would be ok too.

There's not many games out there that I feel are worth the asking price, most games bore me before I get half way through them.

If they made games the same price as DVD movies, then a lot more people would buy them more often.

But in saying all this, no matter how cheap they made the games, people will still pirate them. Just for the sake of it.

For many years now, companies are blaming the high prices of games (and DVDs, etc) to piracy. they said that the prices will go down if piracy is eliminated, i call that BS. why then do games costs so much for new consoles when they haven't been hacked yet?

Its all a cycle Hainaku, incorporated into the costs of games aside from physical manufacturing and raw material costs would be overheads, research and development, distribution, packaging etc. Thats why costs of games can vary in different countries and hence markets since the cost to distribute and package etc will vary too.

The reason new games are still expensive is because they are new, they are early in their product life cycle and hence alot more of the initial development costs are incorporated into the price of the games. Theoretically, prices of games will drop after a few years, same as consoles. So why doesnt this happen?

Piracy. You can pirate games, but not consoles.

Piracy only makes this worse as game companies lose money on all that hard work they put into developing games. Dont forget, people who pirate games, dont buy any new games, just rip off copies other people have bought, so in order to maintain a profit, companies have to also keep the prices of games consistently high.

So really, if you pirate games, dont say you're only doing it because prices of games are high, because the only reason they are so is because you pirate games.

I agree with you there tfresh, but i still think the asking price is too high for games, with or without piracy the effects of piracy. I still pay for them of course, but I don't get to own all the games I would like to have. If they were price a bit lower then it would definitely make me buy more.

Yeah I agree with you there, its ridiculous and totally unaffordable to be buying all the games you want at $100+ a pop. I think mainly thats why I only bought 3 games for my gamecube in the 2-3 years I owned it. I am already very happy that the games at the moment are $80 or below, which is on par with PC games.

I feel that the quality of most games do not justify the price though.

You can't honestly tell me that GT Pro is worth more than $20.

Yeah they should really round up all those games and stick em on one CD and sell it as a compilation or something. Tack them onto a good game or something but to sell them individually is just a waste of plastic shrink wrap.

The name of this chip "Wiikey" makes me think that Will Smith should do some Wii promos.

"Wii-key Wii-key Wild."
