You're right, if Nintendo officially allows usage of homebrew software,then it's okay. And I think Nintendo allows that, atleast I hope so.
But!! Copying a borrowed dvd/game/book is prohibited by law in many countries.. Macky, so it's illegal, those fellows from FBI start knocking on yer door soon if you do so

Dude, Xbox has a Hard Drive, Wii does not, so I'm not really sure how you would expect to 'copy' them to your Wii.

Homebrew is self-made/community-made software. If you managed to run it on the Wii, you would be the first, as all code thats run on the Wii is "signed", meaning it needs a special key. All these fancy mod chips do, is bypass the DVD detection. You're still running Nintendo code, on a Nintendo system, just off a different media.

Keep yer chin up tho. Nintendo announced there's going to be a homebrew channel coming. Itll still be signed by Nintendo in the end I suspect, so you wont be playing your SNES roms just yet.
