Dropped by Myer Sydney CBD yesterday. While the other half was distracted looking at the adjacent outdoor furniture display, I wandered over to check out home theatre and console offerings.
The Wii display was "discretely" placed towards the back of the console section. Lots of game titles in stock (all at $79.95 to $99.95) but no sign of any hardware or accessories.
As I picked up a copy of Wii Pinball I was approached by a shop assistant who asked if I needed any help (OMG! proactive help during sales time - what a shock!)
I mentioned that I was just browsing BUT I would buy a second nunchuck if they had them in stock. His response:
"Sorry mate. No spare controllers of any description in stock. I'd have to rip one out of a new sales package"
I queried what he meant... surely they didn't have stock sitting out the back?
"We still have a dozen consoles from the inital pre-order that we can't release until 7 January, plus another nine or ten consoles from the 22 December delivery."
When I commented that there was no display boxes on show he responded:
"No need mate... people just come in and ask for one"
Go figure.
