R.O.B. was a trojan horse for Nintendo, to get their foot in the door of a volatile market. By including R.O.B. with each NES and calling it a robot toy instead of a video game system, Nintendo moved a million NES units in North America after the video game crash of 1983, when retailers would not even touch a game system.
