Hi, since my laptop's dvd drive died I thought it'd be worth it to get a pc instead of repairing it (which would cost just as much probably) so here's one I found which looked promising:

2.4Ghz Pentium dualcore
1333MHz ESB motherboard
500gb HDD
1gb RAM
DVD burner
224MB video, 8 channel sound (i'll probably upgrade the vid)
+ Winxp, keyboard, mouse, 17" CRT monitor (damn crt)

Asking price is $470.
So since i'm not a hardware guy, I needed some opinions on this before I went ahead and bought it ><

Opinions appreciated!

And without saying what kind of RAM/Mobo/CPU or anything you're looking at you don't know what quality you'll be getting.

I wouldn't get that PC. Just browsing around for about 5min, found some decent prices. Feel free to check it out. I go here for all my PC needs etc. www.msy.com.au

1GB of RAM these days, DDR2 can be picked up for about $24.00.
DVD Burner (I'm looking at getting a new one for my PC, $30.00.
512MB Nvidia, about $39.00 - $64.00, depending on brand.
22" LCD, 5ms refresh rate, $220 - $230.
1TB HDD $245
Cases about $30 - $176, depending of course.
Keyboard & Mouse Combo, Logitech Cordless $39 - $83.

For the price it aint too bad.
But you should really get a better deal somewhere else like Stygian said.
MSY is a good store.

Ahhhh... you're from Perth. I'm not too sure if they post, it may be worth ringing them up, or even emailing -- but be patient. The store nearest to me (Box Hill) is run entirely by asians, some of them don't have the best english, so yeah. Give 'em a ring.

You think you need a lot of RAM to open lots of browser tabs? Where do you people get this info

As for living in WA you have some serious bad luck there dude, searching on StaticIce.com.au for a couple of parts ins WA only lead me to a few WA PC Shops, out of the 6 or so I looked at, every single one sucked ass. They had basic boxes for like $600 and had friggin Celerons in them.

Don't know if Scorptec deliver to WA but they're a really good company:

I have a really hard time recommending these systems though because I know how much better it could be if you build it yourself... how competent are you at putting a PC together??

EDIT: Looks like they do deliver to WA, I used the lower spec system, upped the CPU and RAM and estimated freight to WA and it says $598. Not a bad system if you up those two specs.

EDIT: ROFL www.scorptec.com.au/ what a tank! Thats my PC case...its absolutely freakin massive! Weighs about 30kg and its fully aluminium

Sorry to revive this thread, but whoa, hold up there.

PCI slots are no longer used for graphics cards! What you need to ask for is a x16 PCI Express slot. Depending on the graphics card you get, it may also require a beefier power supply unit.

I run around 20 tabs at 1G on this laptop. It doesn't effect it in the slightest.
