Play-Asia told me that I could use Jap GCN controllers, they had tested it. The hardware is region free so you should be fine.

Not so sure about memory card though...

yer i think all accessories (controllers, memory cards, etc) are region free because they dont actually need to read the game...if that makes sense. but check ti out first befor you buy because i doubt they will allow you to exchange it.

I got it right after a wiimote shortage and I thought I'd gotten ripped off and it wouldn't work...but it was fine

I'd say it'd be the same with a GC controller
