Wii Hardware \ Sensor Bar poor Range?

I love the Wii. Only had it for a couple of weeks but the range of the sensor is lousy. High speed shooters like Ghost Squad are really only any good up to about 2.5 meters. I bought a Powerwave wireless sensor bar which was supposed to have double the range but appears to be exactly the same as the wired one supplied. I've got the sensor on sensor setting number 2 and it is at the bottom of my 50" LG Plasma. Anyone agree with this or got any suggestions to improve it? If I lean back on my couch it jitters so have to lean forward all the time. Can't understand why they made it so weak.

I still want to be able to customize where the Sensor Bar is sitting on the TV (Like TP, but for overall stability), and the option to calibrate aim (like Ghost Squad, but more like Time Crisis on PS1).

naturally the wii will be much more fidelly and fragile to get used to but give it some time and get used to it possibley change the settings to suit you better and you'll find the wii is as good if not better than most consoles

Maybe turn your sensor bar sensitivity right up to 5 in the wii options. But my guess is that you've tried that already so I have no other solutions.

I'm about 2.5 away as well, it only starts to dull away when the battery is at one bar.

1) Chuck the Powerwave sensor bar; you don't need it
2) Re-attach the OEM sensor bar
3) Using a small slot-head screwdriver, remove the LED covers at each end of the sensor bar
4) Problem solved.

(Make sure your curtains are closed, as sunlight, even *indirect* sunlight, will cause interference with the signal being sent by the sensor bar.)

I'm happy with my original sensor bar, sitting around 3m max from the tv screen. I've got the sensitivity on the highest though, it doesn't hurt really. Just don't play with lots of lights around. Other than that I wouldn't have any guesses.

Interesting responses. I have the setting at 2 will try higher. Also I play a lot during the day and the house is open plan (very bright). There's nothing I can do about that. Some good ideas though guys. Thanks.

Well, all I can suggest is sitting closer to the TV or bringing the sensor bar closer to you. Also playing with the sensitivity settings can help.

I've never really had that problem. At home, my TV is right in front of my bed. At my girlfriend's place, the range can be a little flaky if I lean back into her lounge. I think that would be about 2.5 metres. I always have my sensor bar under the TV.

You know what I did, I put my sensor bar on top of a cardboard box and moved the box towards the center of the lounge, ie between tv and sofa. The wired sensor has ample cord length to allow for that. If you have a wireless version, even better. That way I can sit on the sofa and still play. My tv-to-sofa distance is about 6m and I hear the sensor's range is about 3m.

Yeah, that's an idea I was thinking if I ever move into a place where i'm really far away from the TV.

Buy two really strong infared lights and put them in the exact same position as the infared lights on the wii sensor bar. You should be able to go pretty far with that

Stupid question, and I can't be bothered looking it up or reading my instruction manual.

The further away you are, to you have it set to low or high

1 being low
5 being high

So if you're close, set it to 1?
If you're far far away, 5?

etc?
