Super Mario Bros - 10/10
“Super Mario bros; the all time favourite NES classic”
Super Mario Bros was such a great game for all gamers everywhere. It’s such a pity most gamers of today will never get to play this awesome game. Wait, what’s this; they’ve released Super Mario Bros on the Wii’s VC console? Wow, Miracles do happen! 
Seeing as Super Mario Bros is now on the Wii, and it’s an all time NES classic I thought I might review it.

THE CONTROL: The controls in this game are relatively basic and easy to use. You’ve got your four way control pad; which you can move left, right and crouch down with, you would think that up is jump but it’s not, instead the A button is jump and B can make you go fast and shoot fire out of your fists when under the influence of a fire flower. Of course, where is a good video game without a pause button, which happens to be START. When you’re playing Super Mario Bros on the Wii, the controls will be different from the original NES version, so check the manual for the controls before playing.
THE MUSIC: The music is 8-bit, that’s about the best way to describe it. It is a shaky, blocky type of music that would sound annoying over and over again, but somehow we like it. It was like a rough sounding slow early stage techno. But then again, who doesn’t love the old Super Mario Bros music! The music used in Super Mario Bros was great music that we’ve all come to love at this present time. This music is the type of ‘you’re starting off in a mystical place’ music that captured gamers into the game.
THE GAMEPLAY: Super Mario Bros is a basic 8-bit side-scroller. You go around in this 2D land called: ‘The Mushroom Kingdom’ hitting blocks and enemies to obtain points (for your high score) and coins (for extra lives). The game also includes many items to help you through all the obstacles the game throws at you; like the 1-up mushroom (for extra lives) or the fire flower (for killing your enemies with a little fire power!) You will find that whilst playing the game you will mostly be jumping on platforms, squashing enemies, and completing the levels before the time runs out; that’s basically what the game play is. It sounds boring but it’s actually quite enjoyable with the crazy ‘Mushroom Kingdom’ scenario.
THE STORY: You’re a plumber called Mario and you live in a land called ‘The Mushroom Kingdom’ (which I mentioned earlier). There is a princess called Peach who is the ruler and princess of The Mushroom Kingdom. But the evil koopa lord Bowser (who is some sort of weird turtle thing) kidnaps Princess Peach because HE DOES and you have to save her because YOU JUST HAVE TO!
THE GRAPHICS: The graphics in this game are 8-bit. 8-bit in this case means the graphics aren’t very detailed and are in big block form, but Super Mario Bros does have enough detail (for a NES game) to make you think you really were in a mystical kingdom.
TOTAL SCORE: 48/50
Controls: 10/10 Great controls, easy to use
Music: 10/10 who doesn’t like the classic Super Mario Bros music
Game play: 10/10 Super Mario Bros is fun and enjoyable. A few challenges here and there but you’ll get over them. For a NES game, Super Mario Bros is really good!
Story: 8/10 The game has a good aim: ‘Save the princess’, but you don’t straight away know the story, you just start off in the Mushroom Kingdom
Graphics: 10/10 Super Mario Bros has good detail for a NES game, it was easy to understand what was what and the graphics were simple, in a good way
