Not quite a Homer- but still reasonably good. - 6/10
2007 was quite a big year for everyone's favourite animated yellow family. They had a movie which was great in 2007, the tv show still running now marking 19 years of the show in 2007, and a new game for the next-gen console systems: X-Box 360, the PlayStation 3, and the Nintendo Wii, and also the current-gen console systems: the PS2, and portable systems: Nintendo DS and PSP.
The real question is, is The Simpsons Game a Homer or a flop on the Wii?
The Simpsons Game still contains the same satrical, irreverent and winking humor of the show. The Simpsons Game has some great writing, and the humor is right up there with the show's oddball spirit and warmth, and each gag is presented like an episode of the show. The game contains all types of humor: puns, one-liners, references and mickey-takes, but they are perfromed so sharply and written so well, it is genuinely funny and you realize the talents of the writers.
But, The Simpsons Game seems to be too focused in it's gags and writing rather than's it actual gameplay.
The gameplay in The Simpsons Game is quite bland and unorginial. It's a straight beat-em-up using a classic gameplay technique: character roles. For instance, you play as Lisa, and she is a Supergirl and you play as her to destroy enemies and wall. The gameplay is just using your Wii remote and Nunchuck to beat characters up, and that is all you do.
The characters have some very funny powers. Like Homer transforming into a gigantic ball and rolling to smash walls. The problem; good powers, you just don't do much in them. A lot of it will leave of been there, and done that in the gameplay.
Overall, The Simpsons Game is very funny, and emulates the spirit of the classic show, but the gameplay just won't win any newcomers.
