Well, my motherboard only takes DDR1 ram anyway, so I'm gonna replace it if I somehow manage to "save" money.

I disagree, I have an 8600GTS and I can run games up to and including Crysis, no problems, why waste the extra money on a card that over-performs, you may as well get one that will run todays games now, and then save money to get a better one in a few years when you need it

The real question is, to what extent is Crysis playable for you, and on what quality settings? I have a 512MB 7900GS, and I can run Crysis at 20-30 FPS at Medium settings. It is painful, but it is definitely playable.

Crysis is prick for frame rate because its unstable. I have an XFX8800GTS 640MB and it runs Crysis @ 1680x1050 with 50% of things on medium 50% on high and runs very playable but when a HEAP of stuff starts happening my Graphics card eats the RAM my soundcard needs and I get a framerate lag. XFi soundcards need their own amount of ram but the graphics bus get priority and whores it all.

I don't want to play all the latest games with the graphics turned down. 8800GT is a mid range card, its not high end. 8600 is NOT mid range its low range don't kid yourself...

Desi raises a good point, if his card runs Crysis on medium then providing you run WinXP that card would be better value...

But dude, 20-30 FPS. In a shooting game, you may as well not bother. Choppy as all get-out when lots of dudes start shooting. Upgrading to a 8800 Ultra and upgrading to a dual-core CPU on my birthday. Or hell, maybe I'll just buy a new computer.

lukewarm said: MSY are the cheapest by far.

Cheaper than gamedude, Umart, Disc shop etc

www.msy.com.au

They have branches in Morningside and Slacks Creek

If you can't be bothered driving there, you can get the stuff couriered to you.

You will save money by going through them.

It may be the cheapest around, but most likely you will experience poor service and half the time stocks wont be available.

And good luck trying to exchange anything.

Buy with a credit card (if your under 18, ask your parents to buy it on your behalf).. Many PC shops shut down recently, taking their client's money with them... If you buy with a CC (and if it has purchase protection), you can get your money back...

To be even more paranoid, only buy items that are already stocked by your online retailer.

Ultra would be a huge mistake... buying those top end things is just not smart you will get Crysis running med-high with very playable FPS with an 8800GT or even one of the newer 8800GTS with the G92. Those are both half the price but miles off half the performance of an Ultra. Good test of how much Crysis misuses your computers power, compare it to COD4.

I have a 256mb 8600gts crysis gets 30fps almost all the time on medium settings until the very last boss battle when it all gets choppy and unplayable, but as I have read elsewhere that seems to be a problem in the game as even some of the best graphics cards out there do the same thing on that last level.

But anyway, as I said before itestate have always been good to me, very fast, 3 days postage to tassie from sydney, almost as cheap as msy but they will actually post it to you (usually cheaper than the courier option msy gives you) any problems are dealt with promptly, I returned some faulty ram and withing a week had new already tested ram on my doorstep, they are great
