If you can get it in your area, I would go with an ADSL2+ plan, either with iiNet or Internode. They are probably the best value for speed these days, and most ADSL2+ plans have decent usage as well.

For reference, I can't get ADSL2+ in my area so I am stuck on an oldish Netspace plan, 1500/256 with 60GB of data per month (25GB peak, 35GB off peak).

Edit: Should have mentioned, I pay $79 a month for this

I am on 1500/256 with 15mbs of usage. But I only get 1500 speeds in the morning. All other times I get dial-up speeds -_-. I really need a new ISP.

I can't get ADSL2+ because my local exchange is using pair gain

The only way to get ADSL2+ is if i switch to BigPond (Telstra will upgrade the connection), but Bigpond plans are extremely poor value.

I'm one of the unlucky few, who can't get cable or ADSL . This leaves only satellite , or wireless. I was with a wireless ISP, Cirrus Communications (formerly Commslogic). Was $35 for 256/64. The good points were it was the only option other than dial-up, and it was truly unlimited ie, no shaping ever. Unfortunatley, it was woefully unreliable with constant dropouts.

To cut a short post long, I'm now with Virgin Broadband, which uses their mobile network for connectivity. Their deal is 512/384, 4gb (shaped to 128/128), for $60. Includes phone aswell (free local and national calls).

Im on the Bigpond Cable Extreme (17Mb/s) 60GB per month plan. I think its $139? Dont know I run it through the company so dont pay attention to the cost.
Im still waiting to see if it increases to the advertised 30Mb/s.

but would you pay $139 if it was out of your own pocket? one thing i don't like is when they count the Uploads as well!

1 days ago Release me from all your memories, we must say goodbye...

annirowe says:

Oh yeah I hate the fact my uploads are counted. I cant go and use a private tracker because they require you to seed. So that would kill me.

Would I pay fo it out of my own pocket...... Probably no. If I was forced to pay for my own internet I would go with iiNet ADSL2+ with their 60GB plan. Nearly half the price. I recently tried them out for a month but coming from 17MB/s down to 6Mb/s really hurt me. So if push comes to shove then iiNet for me.

Whats your problem this morning Trinest? Like I said in my post I use the Fastest and most superior Network in Australia (there is no denying that Telstra Cable isnt the best quality wise). And I have tried iiNet and it was a good network. Just lacked on the speed but that was only a distance thing.

iiNet I used to be with, for ages I was with iiNet. But they became really stingy. So we were like 'lets switch to soul' even doing that iiNet was stingy, didn't do the proper procedure and stuff so we were with no Interent for ages thanks to them.

iiNet also has toned down lots of reasources in anywere but its home town (I think thats Adaliade?) and even now they are starting to be stupid with that.

I think we've all had our bad experiences with one ISP or another. i'm with TPG and i've had more than a couple "incidents" with them that really ticked me off. however overall, my internet service is good. i just hope the "customer service" experience is improved upon.

Man there are some real rip offs out there. $30 pm for 512 and 2gb total downloads. ****me. thats worse than telstra.

$40pm no contract period (original 6 months) 1500/256 42gb download

If telstra or optus would pull their fingers out and get adsl2 running in my area i could get that for $45 instead.

Suppose to be 8mb/800k, i think.

This is my real world test:

Boom! There you go. That's what I use to have with Optus. They are slowly upgrading everybody's phone lines to accommodate ADSL +2.

The only problem with Optus is their s**t phone support for problems. Indian call centre, people. Very bad. My girlfriend's internet has major problems, yet I still haven't been able to resolve the problems because the indian people couldn't either understand me or not care what I had to say.
