Now, as for your problem, have you tried purchasing the Nintendo Wireless Adapter? This plugs into your computer and this can allow your Wii and Nintendo DS to connect to the internet.

I'm thinking, since i haven't had experience with these Wireless internet, that maybe it should still work as long as the Telstra connection is going into your computer, then having the Nintendo Wifi adapter plugged into the same computer, essentially turn your PC into a router (which won't affect your computer in anyway of operating it, just in case you didn't know).

Plugging your modem directly into your Wii via USB will not work.

Id never use it for general internet. i have no 3g coverage in hervey bay anymore anyway. so i cant even test it. before i was in sydney. full coverage bars at all times, still painfully slow. So here are your options.

1) Purchase the Wireless Adapter. Share your internet connection off your pc and you should be right to go.
2) Purchase the LAN adapter for the Wii and connect via a cable. Share your connection off your PC and away you go. Those are your only two options. I have never tried this third option, maybe someone could tell me if they have:
3) By a router (for the wireless capabilities) and connect the Wii into your network. Share your internet connection from your PC. On the Wii set the Gateway address as your PC's IP address rather than the router.

My suggestion but..... Forget it. Your gonna have big time lag so you wont enjoy online gaming, and any updates are gonna eat into your allowance.

And Jac, The standard 3G you talk about was always only available in The major centres. Next G now covers 98% of the population (they are turning CDMA off in Jan). It doesnt matter where I go I can have broadband.
