that will be there problem, just as things we have now are our problem when my parents didn't care and so on. There will always be tree hugging do gooders who want to save everyone and everything. They have their place, but ultimately they don't influence anyone in the positions of power and the cycle continues.

No Australia hasn't signed. My GOD! Though I believe supersmash is right. I think we'll die in warfare. You do realise that so many countries have bio/nuke weapons stashed away. When they use them I hope I'm long dead. We also probably have the same chance of dying from global warming as being hit by one of the many earth sized comets in our solar system or having some air-borne disease sweep across the earth.

Lulz.

And where shall we store all the resulting nuclear waste? And where shall we get it? And how much of it is there? All nuclear power will lead to is over-dependence on a non-renewable energy source, just like our dependence on crude oil.

You are right when you say it is only part of the solution. The answer is in renewable energy: solar, wind, geothermal, and water. Nuclear power is at best an energy source to use while we improve the efficiency of renewable power.

I'd stay away from all nuclear products.

"This is the most environmentally friendly power source, except for the small fact that it has a half-life that will outlast the earth and will pollute anything that it touches."

The cause for Global Warming is true but what they say Global Warming will do is false, it will do something but nowhere near the extent they say. What they are doing to stop it is the right thing to do, but we should be more worried about the hole in the o-zone layer right above Austrailia.

Yes Nuclear power is only a bandaid solution, but is very efficient. Renewable power isnt very viable at the moment. Low grade uranium dosnt pose much risk, Leaches from the ground naturaly. We have a Nuke power plant in Ontario, very clean and efficiant. There have been huge developments in the reprocessing of uranium in the recent years. I would be quite happy with spent 'hot' rocks under my bed. Put a spent uranium dump in my back yard.

Its much much cleaner than cole, and untill they get improvements in renewable energy, its the best idea. Even if we dont use the uranium, we will just sell more to china.

Nuclear power would only be efficient if we had an equally efficient way to store all the excess energy a nuclear reaction produces. There are a few ways to store electricity: in a battery, on the grid, or through conversion.

Batteries are expensive.

When stored on the grid, electricity is shifted along the city's power grid to provide electricity where it is required. Electricity that is not used goes to ground.

In conversion, the electricity is used to effect a physical change that can in turn be used to create electricity when necessary. An example of this is using a pump to drive water into a dam, and then releasing that water to operate hydroelectric generators.

All of these solutions are so far very limited.

like any power plant, Nuclear would only supply the amount of energy that is likely to be required. Like the one in Ontario, it supliments the Hydro power. of cause in the process of turning coke into power there is always waste product. but uranium is still much more efficiant than coal

Nuclear fusion will work... but it'll take a long time, and that's why we need the "bandaid" someone mentioned earlier... regular nuclear energy plants (fission) need to be used, fast, or else we're boned pretty much... there's no other type of energy plant as efficient as nuclear plants. Well, none that don't wreck the environment anyway...

But then again, you've still got China and America burning fossil fuel at a ridiculous rate... so we're pretty much dead already, even if we got fusion working ten years ago...

I hate the world...

I've heard this myself, but there are many theories to explain it, and considering Mars has next to no atmosphere it is a completely different story. The main point behind this belief is that recent images of Mars's polar region indicate that the frozen carbon dioxide there has diminished slightly, turning into gas. Now, this has actually been explained by the fact that the polar cap changes year to year naturally. It was also stated that Pluto is warming up too, but that can probably be explained by the fact that Pluto's year goes for about 250 earth years, as it gets closer to the sun of course it's going to warm up!

My details are a bit incomplete, I'm relying on my memory and that's a bit incomplete itself! But I hate that people will use things like this to try and explain why the earth is heating up. There are so many facts behind why humans are contributing to it, look them up, it would take me two pages to explain, if people keep ignoring them and coming up with botched up excuses to mask the real problem we will lose precious time.

While I don't really believe that nuclear power is a soloution to the problem, nor is it a very secure bandaid, we need to start doing something now to avoid too much more damage, it may be one of the options that we need to start using. When they finally figure out the secret to a viable nuclear fusion reactor, the world will be a lot easier to live in, cheaper energy, less pollutant energy.

I could crap on more, go into more detail about what we are doing to the planet, but I'll shut up now.
