Wii Hardware \ Just saw a Wii for sale at 290 dollars.

ricky says:

At my local pawnshop, they had a used wii for sale for only 289.99 (which is 290, I dunno why they had to mark it down by one cent). Could this be a sign of diminishing popularity of the wii? Cause even though they're still going through a shortage in some areas at US & Japan, it seems that the wii isn't doing as well down under. I've even seen stats that show the PS3 outselling the wii in some recent weeks. So what do you guys think?

Nintendo products have never done well in this country. The DS and Wii are routinely sold out overseas, but we have a glut of them here.

It's not that the demand has diminished, but that it was never really there to being with.

No, it was at a local pawnshop. It wasn't the first time I've gone there, in fact I've purchased a couple of games from them before (they currently have an official DS Lite browser on sale for 30 bucks!).

@ Desi

I'm pretty sure Nintendo has a massive fanbase in Australia. Plus it seems like their approach to expand their target market has somewhat worked even down here. From what I've known, the wii has outsold the PS3 at this point in time but only from an overall (total number) point of view rather than consistently on a week by week basis. So what I'm fearing at the moment is the impact of a future price cut of the PS3 will have on the popularity of the wii (if it'll ever happens that is...)

Don't buy it. Useless. It's laggy because the DS' processing power is weak.

Yeah I figured. I thought about it for about a day, till I realise that I probably won't use it all that much. I can try reselling it for a profit on eBay though, although the same can be said for the wii.

Yeah I know. I was just pokin' fun at EB cause of their ridiculous "offers" they have going.

It's probably also to hide the fact that we are totally getting ripped off downunder for games. I know, I know, that isn't the real reason why there are different currencies, but it's funny, i thought...
