I just wanted to ask on your opinion about the way Nintendo deals with friend codes.. As the second online game for the Wii (Mario Strikers Charged) is being released in a few weeks, and as per usual - Nintendo are putting in their "12-digit friend code system".

What is you're opinion on this.. I think its useless, and its just too much fuss to get a game going with a mate. I relise Nintendo want to stop Paedophile's hunting down 5 year old kids, but still - how would they do this via a friend code.

I hope that Nintendo works out their online stuff, (i.e, getting a chat room/lobby at least) so you can talk to others. Like what EA games usually do..

It just gets too annoying.

Back in the day we had to deal with networking, proxies, DNS etcetera just to play DOOM online. It's not like you need to enter the Friend Code every time you want to play.

And if it wasn't a Friend Code you were entering, it would be a username. All the same to me.

so if you have 5 games with online play, and you want to play with your 10 friends, you need to enter a 12 digit code ten times for each game!

then after a while you buy SSBB, you then have to add them all again!

they need to have a universal friend code system, where you only keep one list of friend codes that all games can use.

I don't think that it will be too annoying. Sure the initial setup for each game will require a tiny bit of effort but once that's done you're set and you'll be too immersed in the gameplay to care.

Maybe when they setup their new online download service thing they could have some kind of account where you keep all your friend codes. Could this work? And is there a limit to the number of friends codes for each game?

perhaps Nintendo thinks it is not as easy to implement?

with the new address books in mobile phones today, you only have one entry for a contact in which you can store multiple phone numbers and email addresses. there is no need to create several contacts just for one person.

i agree with desi that in the past it was harder to set up multiplayer LAN games, what with all the network configuration to fiddle with - but that was all necessary really to be able to play.
i don't think adding friend codes again for each new game is necessary, but hey, i can live with it.

I hear you mate, I remember just after launch, people were complaining on Zelda how they had to press A AND B together to start the game instead of just A..
