perhaps Nintendo thinks it is not as easy to implement?
with the new address books in mobile phones today, you only have one entry for a contact in which you can store multiple phone numbers and email addresses. there is no need to create several contacts just for one person.
i agree with desi that in the past it was harder to set up multiplayer LAN games, what with all the network configuration to fiddle with - but that was all necessary really to be able to play.
i don't think adding friend codes again for each new game is necessary, but hey, i can live with it.
