I have Monkey Ball on the XBOX and we used to have marathon 4 player sessions, all the trash talk made the game so fun.
I cant understand why they wouldnt do it on the Wii. Its turn based multiplayer so it's not much to add it to the game.

Secondly, the Wiimote seems to make it much more difficult, ive only played it a few hours so im getting used to the controls, but so far they are annoying.
It's certainly not a pick up and play game due to the controls, which is what made the Xbox version so good as almost any of your friends could quickly learn to play.

Lastly the minigames are beyond terrible. Ive been told there are some good ones, but so far, what ive played has been frustrating and/or boring.

So far my impression is that i will be sticking with the xbox version.
