Wii Hardware \ To you theiving idiots... - Locked

Saul says:

In relation towards the Nintendo Mod Chips, for anyone out there that IS getting the chip to illegally copy games, to which I think is idiotic...read what Nintendo has stated.

QUOTE

Nintendo has fired out a warning to gamers about the consequences of chipping consoles.
A post on the platform holder’s website cautions readers that the effects of mod chips can damage Nintendo hardware – and lead to prosecution.

“Modification microchips (mod chips) circumvent the security embedded into Nintendo's products. To install a mod chip into a Nintendo hardware system, it is necessary to dismantle the product and, in some instances, remove components.”

“The use of mod chips voids the manufacturer's warranty. In addition, the installation of a mod chip can damage the functionality of a Nintendo console, sometimes rendering it incapable of repair.

"Mod chips have been adjudicated to be illegal in various countries around the world, including the Unites States, the United Kingdom and Hong Kong.

“Most European countries have also already adopted laws prohibiting the circumvention of technological measures for copyright protection. People caught installing or selling mod chips may be subject to criminal charges.”

so what they're saying is mod chips are hideously murdering Wiis? I'm down with that I'd rather buy games anyways

Winnie says:

Funny how Nintendo has put pretty much no effort to actually prevent use of modchips, though...

Have you seen the video (which was posted in the video section a while ago) about hacking the Wii? The hackers said that the modding protection of the Wii was exactly the same as the GC's, except a password was changed. That's it.

bennyr says:

They should release some awesome update that stops it all...

04/27/2007 Melbourne

dsreaper says:

There's nothing new there...
Voiding warranty from opening it and that you might brick the console from doing it have been known since day 1.
We don't (Aussies) live in a country that prosecutes people for installing a mod chip, the legislation was past in 06 deeming them legal so that shouldn't worry anyone.

I'm not saying piracy is acceptable it's not, just saying complaining about the existence of the chips is futile.

Saul says:

I assure you, Nintendo will make all updates to prevent the hot news on what good Mod chips are going around, no doubt about it, they're not idiots.

04/27/2007 Victoria, Melbourne, Frankston

Omi says:

Well the you'd think Nintendo would be doing more to try and stop this. Couldn't they make it so that tampering with the Wii would render it useless? And would it actually be possible to release an update to combat this?

04/27/2007 Tassie

Esoth says:

Oh who knows, maybe they'll post up a firmware update which'll automatically detect whether the hardware has been tampered with and brick them...

RerunWii says:

That would be awesome...

From what I've heard, Nintendo aren't able to detect the presence of a modchip... =/

Cham-balam says:

thats what stealth mode is, some say nintendo dont try to stop it as it sells more consoles, but then they get **** from 3rd party developers...

04/27/2007 Behind You....

Saul says:

Do you honestly believe, with Nintendo's BILLIONS of dollars, they won't be able to create software updates, or any type of update to destory the Chip and what it does?

They'll render the console useless, and they'll do it to save sales, and save marketing.

Nintendo Vs Nerds who create mod chips...come on, use logic.

You're posting content which puts the life of this site at risk. MyWii was gone for 30 hours and the world went into hysterics (well, sort of). Modchips aren't illegal in Australia, but they have the capacity to play pirated games, which is illegal. And the servers are hosted by Americans, and modchips are illegal there.

I'm not putting anything at risk.

All I need was clarify points made by Nintendo and other members on the site. If my coments are deleted, and my account banned, then it really should be the same for everyone in this thread.

Ok, just had a look at the letter that was sent.

If modchips talk is such a big deal, then I have no idea why these threads are created.
