As for your problem, have you tried disconnecting power to your Wii for a bit and reconnecting? I had a similar problem and had to do that and resync for it to work (I have 2 remotes and they both played up for some reason).
um no thats wrong, the light corresponds to which player the control is, the reason you see 3 is because the light in the control lights up the main light that should be lit, but also shows in the other ones because of the brightness of it,
My comment was referring to this observation, I already know what the lights signify thanks...
