Wasn't the difference between getting the notice and not getting the notice because of where you downloaded it from? To my understanding, you can update through testing your wiiconnect24 connection and through just the system update button

I thought the difference between getting and not getting the notice was a modded Wii.
As far as I know, the new update can't be downloaded from WiiConnect24. I leave my Wii and WiiConnect24 on constantly and it didn't download the update. Also, automatically updating through WiiConnect24 would defeat the purpose of the warning message which allowed the user to change his/her mind.
Has anyone received their update through WiiConnect24?

no i have had connect24 on forever and never got an update through it. i was going to say the other day wasnt it supposed to do updates but i didnt. i think it just tells you via a wiimail if an update is available.
im always going to update from the wii menu anyway so thats how i did this one

Tell me honestly, that everyone who owns a modded wii doesnt play pirate games. I dont necessarily agree with high priced games but i will not ever mod my wii as the game developers deserve the rewards for their work.
I also thought this sort of discussion was against site policy....any MODS out there???

i dont know why anyone would support EB games, went in the other day and saw Eledees NEW for $99 and PREOWNED $95. Whos getting riped off there. YOUD be lucky to get $30 for the trade in.

I'm not an EB supporter per se. They just happen to be the only decent place to buy a game where I live.
I see exactly where you're coming from - today I had a look at a second-hand copy of Twilight Princess for the Wii - $90 and the case looked like somebody had used it to play cricket. Anybody could put two and two together and spend another $10 for a decent copy.
But back on topic (slightly), does anybody have any experience with the "Chiip" mod-chip? How does it compare to the mainstream chips?

Sorry, I should have elaborated more. I meant how does the Chiip mod-chip compare to others, like the Wiikey? I didn't find the website very helpful and there don't seem to be any forums for it.

I don't understand technology at all, all i know is if nintendo made the wii they can probably tell if someone is screwing with it. I'm not getting mine chipped because i want to keep my wii online and working.

I think even though Nintendo is blocking hackers from hacking and modding the wii consoles, it will only be for a short time, in times today there is always someone else smarter, and it wont be long until its hacked again

If that was a Slimline, you're an idiot, your cousin is an idiot, and the modder is an idiot.
Slimlines would burn the laser out trying to read a disc error over and over again, an addition to the chip and a few wires would fix it.
Don't get over-dramatic because a PS2 burnt out, they were terrible anyway.
