If you couldn't play it with the wii's hardware then it wouldn't be a wii game it would be a gamecube game. If it was also going to be released on cube and you bought the cube version u would need the gc controller but it isn't and u don't.

That's a load of bull**** wherever you've heard that from. If you couldn't play it with the wii's hardware then it wouldn't be a wii game it would be a gamecube game. Bowdy and Pyro, you might want to check out this link:

au.wii.ign.com/

"We found that trying to implement too much motion-sensory functionality can get in the way of the game. We're looking at keeping the control simple, as it has been," said Sakurai. "The Wii hardware has sockets for the GameCube controller, too. So I'll just say now that you may not want to throw away your GCN controller yet"

At least hold onto 1 Gamecube controller if possible. Otherwise you may need to get a Wii Classic Controller, which could possibly be bundled with SSBB.

should i sell or not? i can sell my gc and 1 controller for like some money or w.e and keep 1 controller, but if i end up needing the controller for ssbb, then ill want my 2nd controller back...but if i dont..i wanna sell it with my gc and get more money for the package...what u think i should do?
cause i will sell my gc game mario kart (BORING)
but i dont wanna keep the GC because its useless...i dont wanna play GC games....i dont care for them...or VC games either...lol so its no consern...but if i can use the classic controller i'll be happy...but does the classic have enough buttons???

Ok this is where it gets a little confusing.

Before the article 'Virtual Console Secrets' was posted, I was under the impression that you could use a Wii Classic controller in lieu of a Gamecube controller (for backwards compatibility with Gamecube). But the interview with Nintendo pretty much threw that idea out the window.

So in a break-down

Wii classic controller - Allows play of certain Wii games without motion sensing and virtual console games. Back of controller is meant to have a 'hook' for the Wii Remote, as the classic controller is plugged into the remote. So it is 'wireless'. Same buttons as GC contoller, except analog sticks are positioned differently and bumper buttons are not analog like GC controller.

Gamecube controller - Play Wii games that ARE compatible, play virtual console games, play GAMECUBE games, must be connected to Gamecube controller port on Wii.

My prediction is yes, you will need some sort of controller, whether it be gamecube or classic. SSBB will require some old school button bashing, so motion sensing just ain't gonna cut it for the game. They could have just used the remote flipped sideways as a control pad (they may still) but I think the lack of buttons is why they are looking elsewhere.

The reports saying the motion sensors are difficult to use are a little off putting. Needing at lest 3 different controllers to use all of the wii's functions is pathetic but more worrying it seems nintendo arent confident about their primary controller. If this wasnt enough we are starting too see signs of the same retail problems that sunk the cube.
I wonder what reggie's suprize is, perhaps a forth controller??

I played the wii in Melbourne Central ysterday, and i must say... WWOWOOOOOOOOOOWWWWW!
Its everything I was Expecting and moreeeeee!!!!!
At fist i was like... is this a dream!?? like i was staring a Wii in the face?!?!??!?WTF lol
Wario ware was really cool. Very fast paced and really fun
Duck Hunt was cool. Similar to Point Blank very fun.

and ZELDA, OMFG ZELDA!!!! yay it was so fun. the controls feel so intuitive, it felt like ive played it b4. I picked up the control and i just played. no confusion, i didnt have to get used to it, NOTHING. I didnt want to leave but i had to at the risk of getting a parking ticket lol.

I also preordered my shiny new WII at Myer last night.

It is possible .... THEY just dont want to do it.... i mean with motion controls and wireless controls and virtual consoles and the like ..... anything within reason is possible and to have the classic controler play game cube is deffinitelly reasonable... i honestly beleive they want to move old stock so theyve decided that the game cube controler is the only way to play gc games ... Hey christis! I was at Melbourne Central too, awesome stuff man. I was worried that the whole Wii and nunchuck thing would be a bit complicated but it actually works quite well!

Zelda... that's as much as i can say without degenerating into a giggling idiot... I swear, there were 4 Wiis there, 90% of the crowd was watching the Zelda screen...

Couple gripes though:
1) with the shooting game, it seems that there's a bit of lag for the crosshair on the screen to move to where you're actually pointing but it seems you can change that (according to the girl working there who looks like she's never clocked a console game in her life i might add... ). Also, it's a bit weird to aim because there's no "sight" on the Wiimote so it's a little bit of guess work if not for the on-screen crosshair
2) The guy there didn't know if there were any controller colours besides white and as much as i like A4 paper i'm very anti-iPod so i hate the white...
3) While we're on the subject of iPods the Wiimote looks like it's made of the same "butter-grade" plastic as the iPods. By "butter-grade" i mean easily scratched by a passing breeze plastic. The one i was using looked a little battle-scarred for and i'm not too sure many people have hands that are THAT rough...

yeh i noticed the slight lag on duck hunt but i dont think its a really big deal. i dont think its a technical fault, just the way it was created, because in some instances of the game ( when u pass a level ) u can move the pointer around with no lag... who knows.

it was pretty sensitive as well so i had to get used to it, but it didnt take me long. i guess you can just adjust the sensitivity of the wiimote in the options anyway so its no biggie.

but yeh, it was a great day. EVERYone seemed to be having fun.. like you look around and everyone has a big smile on their faces EXCEPT the zelda people lol. we were serious as ever... trying to rake in every last bit of gameplay we had left with the girl next to us saying "uve got 1 minute left"
oh well. till DECEMBER then...

I went to the Nintendo roadshow Fri (10/11) and Sat (11/11) as it is at my westfield until the end of today. There was no one playing them on Friday, so got to play for an hour before having to go. Yesterday, only got busy after 1pm according to the dudes running the thing. Busy meant 10 minute. With all the hype surrounding the Wii, I would have thought more would have attended.

Let me say the Wii was awesome. I have never owned a Nintendo, had PS1 and XBOX and I am getting the Wii as I see it as the next progression. The wiimote is everything i expected, and I cant wait for games to fully utilize its ability. The game I enjoyed the most was Zelda, although Wii sports was a close second. They had a demo of Red Steel and just let me say, it looks good and it should satisfy all the wiggas out there who want to shoot with the gun sideways.

I'm not surprised that there were not many people trying out the Wii at the roadshow.

A lot of people on the forum have already commented that the advertising for the Wii is really non-existant. Nintendo really need to start ramping up their advertising campaign because there are a lot of people out there who have no idea what the Wii is, or even the fact that there are the Roadshows going around.

I get the feeling that their advertising will be minimal (I hope I'm proven wrong) and that they will rely more on word of mouth then big flash marketing campaigns like Sony

They have to be careful with this "advertising tactic" that they are running... we are inside one month and i havent seen an add anywhere other then inside a game store.

How is a non gamer supposed to know about this if they dont go to the games store. What nintendo is really underestimating is this campaign is against two competitors in Sony and Microsoft not just the one in Sega like in the past. What the hell are they doing I got no idea.

P.S Word of mouth seems to be the sole marketing tool nintendo has decided to use..this seems like another prime example of how they are going CHEAP!!

Word of mouth is no good cause it cant be controlled and you got people like myself mouthing off!

Really noone playing it? At the Melbourne Car Autosalon they had 4 Wii's there and they opened at 9am and by then the line was almost 400m long and I didn't have time (I was at the Game-1 LAN that bunched with the Melbourne Car AutoSalon) so that's weird as I didn't even know the Wii was going to be there but it was attracting more people than the LAN or the Autosalon.
