Personally there is not much point in either a 360 or PS3 for me at the moment, when I decide to get an HDTV I will look into it then.

My view is that the X360 will perform better (in sales) over the PS3. Every company is here to make money and software designers are no different. There has been a trend recently for a lot of software companies not to sign exclusive arrangements with a particular company but launch their games across different platforms and even on the PC simultaneously. To design specifically for the PS3 would mean a lot more resources would be needed to utilise its full processing power, with the Wii emerging as the major contender, I believe software designer would generally be reluctant to commit these resources.

Has to be playstation. Over the years they have formed themselves a nice little 'well known for list' with final fantasy and Grand Theft Auto topping the list... appart from a few exclusive titles the systems are very similar in that they both get main release games. So in a flat out choose one argument you'd have to go the newer of the two.

I think the retro FF series players will appreciate the return of Final Fantasy to the ninetendo so that will not be a selling point for the PS3.
Obviously it is going to sell well but with the 360 being cheaper it is sure to be the console of choice.
PS3 is ridiculously expensive as well as the games.
Plus neither console is bringing anything new to the table in terms of gameplay. The only promise - Faster and better graphics.

THe gamming community is evolving and wanting more from their console's, I know we agreed not to say the Wii in this thread as consol choice, but in terms of what each of these third generation consoles brings to the table, Wii wins pants down.

Playing 360 at a friends house the other day, on a 148cm plasma screen with $4000 worth of surround sound speakers at about half their capacity.
I didn't get the chance to hear the 360 ovefr the rumbling of car engines, smashing of glass and the screams of of pain from careless pedestrians as I hooned the streets of Burnout: Revenge.
