News \ 'Family Play' for EA's next big sporting titles.

We all know that Nintendo have been working extremely hard to captivate the attention of the elusive non-gamer, and with the success of the Wii, it seems that other parties are taking onboard methods to snag these peoples’ interest. Wii Sports could well be called the benchmark title; having simplified controls allowing gamers to just pick up the Wii-mote and play along with these highly addictive games without having to worry about complex controls. Now EA has announced its latest development in simplified user control schemes entitled “Family Play”.

Family Play is basically an optional control scheme that removes the nunchuk from the equation. Thus making it easier for non-gamers to pick up and play the games without being intimidated by an advanced control scheme. By simply removing the nunchuk at any time during play will engage this mode where the Wii will guide the player's movement and other controls that rely on the press of a button (like the movement in Wii Sport's Tennis). Once the user is confident and wishes to apply a more advanced control, simply plug the nunchuk back into the Wii-mote and hey presto, you have advanced control over players onscreen.

Executive producer of the 3 titles, Dave McCarthy states; “EA Sports Family Play on the Wii creates an incredibly accessible and user-friendly experience that the whole family will enjoy. While many fans love to control every piece of the action, novice players can have just as much fun jumping in to throw a touchdown pass, nail a three pointer or take a shot on goal. Family Play brings together fans of all ages to enjoy playing EA Sports games, and even lets them ease in to advanced play if they desire."

This could help bridge the ever-closing gap between core and casual gamer, the only thing I’m worried about is losing to my younger brother on Madden!

Man EA is actually putting effort into there games again! And especially for Wii! Though I rented Madden and the controls go in depth but it was kinda hard to play.

OUT-FRACK'N-STANDING!

Madden is very hard to play on the Wii. I am a keyboard gamer on my computer. I can't stand the hand pads on NES/X-Box/PS123. I love the Wii but I have been disappointed at the way games have been using the new technology. Simple wrist flicks up/done & left/right sux. I want to dribble & shoot the basketball, throw the football like a football, and well you can't kick yet on the Wii for Soccer, but someone will figure that out soon enough. LOL
