It seems there will be a taste of disappointment in fans' mouths at next week’s E3 - There will be no playable versions of the highly anticipated Wii fighter.

Game|Life's media relations representative at Nintendo confirmed the news this afternoon, but stressed that Smash Bros. was still very much on for its 2007 release date. To top it off, "gamers will be able to choose their favorite fighter and battle online against friends," according to IGN's Matt Casamassina.

"Several never-before-seen Wii titles will be announced and playable at the show, but due to the constrictive, tightly scheduled nature of this year's scaled-back E3, Nintendo wanted to have a smaller game portfolio."

This comes as somewhat a surprise but does make sense being that the E3 convention has been downsized this year allowing attendees less time to experience Nintendo's line-up. Nintendo appear to be taking a more narrow focus on a group of key software titles so there may be some big announcements in store for us next week.
