Rumour: Wii price drop coming soon

Word on the street Internet is that Nintendo is planning to drop the price of the Wii for the very first time, as they begin the console's marketing campaign for its 4th holiday season.

According to Kotaku a price drop is planned, at least in the US, for early October. American retailer Walmart apparently released advertising about an October price 'rollback' for the Wii, however, no specific price was mentioned.

The console currently has a RRP of USD $249 (RRP is $399 in Australia). If we had to take a guess we'd say the new price would be closer to the $200 mark, assuming of course that this is legit (maybe around AUD $300 in Australia?).

Nintendo of America replied with their famour "Nintendo does not respond to rumors and speculation" line.

What do you think about a price drop? Is it on the way, and if so much will the Wii retail for in either America or Australia?

It's about time if they do.

Still it's kinda clever that they've kept the price high for this long since when I was buying my Wii I was going to wait till the price dropped but it too long so I ended up buying it for the RRP.

Doubt it. I couldn't see them dropping the price right when some of their biggest games are coming out. All that sold their Wiis and are fans of Nintendo's games will rush to repurchase it again for those games, mainly Metroid Trilogy, New Super Mario Bros, etc.

Yeah, but I would hope by now everyone already has a Wii....unless people are buying two Wii's for whatever.

not happening, maybe for one day and that day will be "black friday"(worst shopping day ever). WalMart always lowers stuff on that day.Last year the XBox arcade was $120 and the original price is $199.

Wii's already price dropped to $349 instead of #399. I can't really see it getting aruond $200, cos that's how much Guitar Hero and Wii Fit cost roughly.

Not 'officially' some retailers may sell it on sale at $350, but the RRP in Australia is still $399.
