Id Software to develop for the Wii platform?

John Carmack of Id software has stated in an interview with MTV Multiplayer that there could be a possibility of the company developing games on Nintendo's Wii console in the future. Id software has been indecisive on whether or not to create games for the Wii in the past but with this new interview it seems that it could soon become a reality.

If Id software does decide to develop a Wii title it would not be a port of their upcoming Id Tech 5 game Rage. John has stated that a port would not be a viable option due to the Wii's technology but they have discussed and pitched a project that would be perfectly feasible for Nintendo's platform.

Carmack has said that the Wii game pitch is related to an unannounced iPhone title that is currently under development. The game would be completely built from the ground up for the Wii and it would play to the Wii's own strengths. John also said that the potential title could use one of it's own existing IP's that have a little bit of leverage.

This news shows a pleasant change of heart from Id software who only a little over a year ago said that their company would not venture into Wii development. John Carmack himself has said that he loves the direction Nintendo has taken with the Wii and DS and it has encouraged him to try and create something unique on that platform.

Nothing is confirmed at this stage but with all the positive talk coming from the company on the subject an Id Wii game in the future is a definite possiblility.
