News \ The Wii. It's own Deadly Creature.

Here's the official tag-line from THQ on the game: "A world of danger and discovery: Infiltrate the gloomy, thorn-filled labyrinth of the Brambles, home to gangs of wolf spiders and vicious black widows. Battle scavenging rats in the trash-filled Wasteland, where an old abandoned truck towers above you like a fortress. Scale cliff walls, cacti and rusting subterranean pipes, all to reach your final, most dangerous destination: a creepy old gas station on a lonely desert road."

THQ have announced the new type of action/thriller game Deadly Creature, an original game concept developed, exclusively for Wii by Rainbow Studios. The game has players taking on the role of both an armoured scorpion and a stealthy tarantula as they make their way through a desert wasteland in America fighting for survival. The duo are normally natural enemies but team up to face off against snakes, lizards, tarantula wasps, an assortment of spiders and most dangerous of, man.

"Deadly Creatures is an amazingly innovative game concept, and exemplifies THQ's commitment to creating original new IP for the Nintendo Wii platform," said Randy Shoemaker, head of global brand management for THQ. "With Deadly Creatures, we are raising the bar for all third-party Wii titles, and focusing on deep, compelling game play for a largely untapped audience of Wii gamers."

"Deadly Creatures is a creepy, cinematic thrill ride, where the distinction between predator and prey can shift around every corner," said Nick Wlodyka, executive producer and general manager, Rainbow Studios. "With brutal motion-controlled combat, a dark compelling story and some of the best visuals to date on the Wii, we are excited to bring Deadly Creatures to a large core Wii audience that hungers for a new experience."

A quick glance would have people thinking Deadly Creatures a simple 3D fighter, but according to the title's lead designer, Jordan Itkowitz, "The game offers a mix of combat and platforming-based exploration using the main characters' unique attacks and abilities."

By all indications Rainbow Studios are making good use of the Wiimote. Itkowitz explains: "One of the main reasons we wanted to do Deadly Creatures for the Wii was the un-missable opportunity to let players emulate these characters by acting out their attacks and abilities with the Wii controls. Every input option is being used -- it's a fluid mix of gestures, IR-pointer functions, and some more conventional controls."

"If you get down to these creatures' perspectives, their lives -- and the lives of their prey, rivals and enemies -- are short and brutal," said Itkowitz. "We've all flipped to a nature channel and been fascinated by clips of insects locked in combat, but we wanted to elevate those clashes to the level of a monster movie. Think about the immense battles in King Kong or Jurassic Park - the scale may be smaller here, but the impact is the same."

Deadly Creatures sadly doesn’t feature an online mode, as Rainbow Studios wanted to focus on single-player or co-op adventure. "There are plenty of unique elements to this game that we're excited to share in the coming months: a dark, sinister storyline, a fascinating sense of scale and discovery, vertigo-inducing camerawork, and more," states Itkowitz.

The control system is Wiimote - 'chuck based. The Z and B buttons being used for the appropriate appendage. Combo's can even be achieved. The C button used to block and motions with the wiimote used for some awesome fatalities.

Look for it to be released in America in September 2008.

Excuse me for being extremely skeptical.....after all, this is THQ we're talking about. They're not exactly the purveyor of fine games.

What's with the "N" and "W" with the directions? Nunchuck and Wiimote? That would be pretty cool, and quite tricky to get them going in the right direction.

Got it in one Omi.

Mortal Kombat on the Wii may be losing it's fatalities but you can't rate a game where creepy crawlies kill each other as offensive.
