The Ghostbusters will shortly be making their way into the homes of gamers worldwide with releases for PC, PS3, 360, Wii and PS2. After so many forgettable attempts at movie to game crossovers some may ask themselves what the point is. Others may say there are already Ghostbusters games and they were terrible. Well all I can say to you is that with the current consoles I think this may just be ok.
Now, to the game: Set in 1991, two years after Ghostbusters 2. The player dons the grey one-piece and joins the old team as a new recruit, to fight a new enemy that threatens to wipe out New York . While the PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 versions of the game focus on the single player game, the Wii version will place the main emphasis on multiplayer. On the Wii the single player campaign will follow the same story and events as the other versions but in a “softer” way. In gamer terms this means there'll be less story and less dialogue. Wii owners need to face the fact that Ghostbusters on Wii was designed with a younger player base in mind, so don't expect many adult themes or jokes from the films to make it through. While this will have adult Wii owners howling for blood it’s not all bad.
The characters look great, with nice shadowing on the models. Firing up a Proton beam looks every bit as cool as you'd expect and now for the kicker. Unlike the PC, PS3 and 360 game, you'll be able to play through the entire Wii campaign mode co-op (splitscreen) with up to four players! I guess it could be said then that this game on the Wii is really all about multiplayer anyway with a load of modes and variations on modes dedicated to more then one person playing.
The controls are a cross between a TPS (Third Person Shooter) and a fishing game with an under arm throwing motion of the ‘chuk used to roll out traps for catching your spectral prey.
By all accounts it’s shaping up to be another awesome game for friends to play on the Wii.
