Im really keen on this however it looks like it has the potential to be pricey. A couple of rechargable batt's and a charger might be cheaper and i guess the stand is something that i could live without

Yeh that's true, if this is going to cost too much more than some re-chargeable batteries and a charger then I might not get it.

I think it's excellent. Nice simple design. The price doesn't worry so much. I wonder how long it'll take to charge a empty battery back to full - and how long will the those battery's last. Hmmm?

I noted with interest that Nintendo in the manual for the Wii specifically mention that the use of rechargeable batteries (NiMH, NiCD Li-ion)that aren't recommended by Nintendo is not advisable....

watching the forums to see if the majority of WiiMotes in the US that are using rechargeables have any issues.

Hope those are high quality batteries because rechargeables often start acting stupid after a couple of months of heavy use.

It would be good for the coffee table but you cant really have the cord running across the lounge. You could always put it next to the wii or maybe near it with a usb ext cord

My friend and I were out at EB and JB HiFi at Southland in VIC on Sunday, sniffing Wii boxes in anticipation.

We noticed a box on top of the real high shelves at JB in the gaming section, that had interesting labels on them (ones that the staffed had tagged). There were boxes marked "JOYTECH" and something about this product and the rest of the companies launch line up.

I just can't remember exactly what it said. The boxes were up high and when we tried to get up there and see...... well, lets just say that the security guard at the door had a keen eye on us?

We scurried away to get another Wii fix at EB......

That aint bad if thats the case. A DESCEND charger will set you bak that much. I was cheap and bought a $20 one. Takes about 6hrs to charge the batteries

How long do standard batteries last in the Wii? The Wii has only just been released. If you want rechargeable batteries for your Wii, why not buy a charger and batteries that can be used for other purposes as well. Probably cheaper too. On page 3 of the Operations Manual, Nintendo only recommends the use of alkaline batteries (standard batteries). No doubt just covering their ass for warranty reasons.

Haha, yes. But what will using batteries that AREN'T Alkaline do? Not like battery acid will suddenly start leaking from it surely.
As for standard batteries, they have reasonable lastability with the Wiimote depending on how you play. My friend and I have had Twilight Princes (among many games, but we'll use TP as an example) for the same amount of time however, his batteries lasted him for at least 40-45 hours (total game time) with the sound up to its maximum; he is also quite the button masher, which is never a good thing. I on the other hand, still have pleanty of battery time left; having my Wiimote's sound on around half its max volume, as well as a calm playing nature (with the occaisional fiddle here and there if needed )

Have to say that this should have been included with the Wii. I have two Wiimotes and they sit around on the entertaiment unit when not in use and they look all messy. I now have to stock even more AA batteries in the house.

Nintendo put so much effort into the look of the wii but forgot about the controllers when they are not in use.

It looks like it draws power from USB, so you can probably run it off the Wiis USB ports.

Man, I don't care what people say about the batteries lasting for 40-50 hours because it just ISN'T TRUE. I've had my Wii for ten days now, (got it on the release day of course) and I've run through a whole twenty pack of batteries. That twenty pack was on the cheap at $17 (brand name, of course, so it's not the batteries themselves), but if you include the two that came with each of the Wiimotes (note that the second one barely ever gets its batteries changed because it's only used for when people come over) that's 24 batteries in ten days. That's a hell of a lot to be spending, and seriously, Nintendo should have thought of that.

I've racked up about fifty hours in Zelda, and I would guess total twenty hours with my mates in Wii Play and Wii Sports. So, about ninety remote-hours, and ten battery changes. ****ing unacceptable. I will be getting this the moment I can, but I shouldn't have to in the first place.

If you're going through 20 batteries a week, seriously consider this alternative, at least until this thing comes out. Save the planet from old batteries and save your wallet from a consumable that need not be consumed. In style!

PS. Just lost 1 block of power after about 4 hours of play time, so Id say the batteries will last 16 hours. Now, If I sleep 8 hrs a day, and charge them fully in that 8 hrs, I could, in theory, run non-stop Wii gaming without ever getting new batteries. At least till the rechargeable ones die.

XBOX and ps3 both have the same problemb except xbox 360 wireless controllers can be hooked up with wires if running low. Anyway, how would nintendo get round this??? They can't put wires on, each time you move the wiimote the wire would come out and you'd need 4 wire ports. I think this is a good idea by ubi but

*Rolls eyes*

You exagerate more than my mum.

If you are going through that many batteries maybe you shouldn't buy the cheap ones and for $8 you can buy 4 top of the range Energisers that will last you.

I've played through Zelda am through one season of Madden and am playing WiiSports daily and only changed my stock batteries over yesterday, in both controllers.

I think Nintendo should release a docking station much like the XBOX 360 one how it has the battery packs and you take them out and place them inside the Wiimote, much like this acessory does but I personally like official products.

Judging by nintendos nature with their past portable system I wouldn't put it past them to release a charger dock system themselves. Why else would they leave such a loop whole and obvious chash in hand opportunity.

As far as this little fella is considered, I think $50 dollars is a fair enough investment, I have bought battery chargers that cost more, and the fact is, it will EVENTUALLY pay itself back.

Design wise I wish it was a bit more flush with the generic white theme. I will be sitting on this before leaping to the first quick fix.

I've had this for a week or so now... imo, great accessory. Piggy backs off the main power unit, not off usb. Also indicates when it finishes charging, so it doesn't over charge the batteries. I can't c any problem using rechargeable batteries in the wiimote... Anyway, i definitely recommend this. Only downside is you can't use the silicon cases when in the charge station. I bought mine from JB Hifi... but you can get it off dstore.com.au for 35 bucks or something.
