Wii Software \ Screen setup?

Has anyone noticed how some games are displayed just outside the bounds of your TV screen?

Most games I've played are cropped so that everything is displayed within my screen, but some games are not. As in, if something is displayed at the very bottom of the display it will be slightly lower than my screen. Yet the Wii menu is displayed perfectly on my TV, and its setup for 480p. ???

Anyone got any ideas? Does it have something to do with playing overseas games that are a different region?

I think a lot of it has to do with games from America/Japan. I've noticed that with a few games, where the screen is shifted over too far to the left or right.

Unfortunately, not all games have the option to change the alignment of the screen. You are just left with guessing how for in the Wii options...

I don't think Metroid Prime 3 is really 16:9 or 480p . I have a widescreen LCD tv and all the settings right too, Super Mario looks great though.

I've got a widescreen 42" Plasma. I've got the wii setup as 16:9 and looks goods on pretty much all games. My TV screen is set up for PAL also if that means anything to anyone.

Is there a NTSC setting on your plasma? Just wondering because you make it sound like it. If there is, you could always give that a try with those games you are having problems with...

Yeah it does. I can set the TV up as PAL, PAL60, NTSC blah blah blah....

I might give that a go. Although I've tried it before on normal TV and all the colours are stuffed up. Then again I guess that would be because I was trying to display PAL as NTSC. Does the Wii output NTSC? OR does the Wiikey somehow make a NTSC game output at PAL? I'm not too clued up on that stuff.

I'm not too sure on the exact technical differences between PAL 60 and NTSC, but I know they are similar. At one stage, it was the same, but now it apparently is different. I'm sure the NTSC games that do work on the PAL Wii are because the Wii is set on PAL 60 mode. If you read the official Wiki, you will find that a lot of games don't work properly without using the PAL 60 setting. Best just to try that NTSC option out to see if that helps or makes any difference.

PAL - is the Australian format (stands for Phase Alternating Line)
and NTSC is the US format ( we call it 'jokingly' Never The Same Colour )

The differences are mainly how each line is decoded and drawn across the screen and how the colour is decoded.

If you have an Australian Wii , then everything should be set to PAL.
And for best picture if possible use a component cable, set the Wii to 16:9 and EDTV/HDTV.
