Social \ what's the best video editor

like it says, going to start making videos and animation but i need a fast, powerful and professional video editor that's free oh and it must have a good set of codecs like divx and quicktime

You do require a pretty descent, high end pc/mac though to get anywhere. Otherwise goodluck, you might sit there for 12 hours waiting for a 1 minute video to render

There are others but for free ones there is Windows Movie Maker (i've never used it personally) or search sites such as videohelp.com or softpedia.org

That's a good program. I'm actually using the Windows Vista version, which is 1000 times better than the Windows XP version. Plus it's linked to a DVD maker program, which is also awesome!

Yeh i use that too, but i also have my laptop for school which has xp, and i can't continue editing on my laptop at school:(

Sony vegas 5 does the job...and u can get like vegas 7 or sumfin...

alternatively... just get a mac... macs poon multimedia!

For special effects (Explosions, Magic? etc) you can use "Particle Iluusion"

Yeah, I think i've been using that program. Well, I know it's a Sony one, but can't remember the name...

I've also been using the Windows Movie Maker for Windows Vista. Now that one is good to put together my digital video movies into a DVD. Much more improved over the Windows XP version.

If you have/want Mac use Final Cut Studio 5 (or above)
and get "Motion" for special affects and the like.

For PC i reccomend
UBER'LA SERIOUS EDITING - Requires intense PC:
Avid
Avid is the father company of Pinnacle and it is used in movies like King Kong and many others!
FAIRLY SERIOUS EDITING - Requires great PC:
Adobe AE or Elements ( i personally dont like them, too fidly to do what i want)
SOMEWHAT SERIOUS EDITING - Requires good PC:
Sony Vegas...brilliant program, does what it needs to..and good GUI.
