I was lucky today. I added to my collection the original Megaman and Galaga for NES (Nintendo Entertainment System). I got it for $9.95 and $14.95, respectively.

Now, I am curious, who out there has scored an absolute bargain for retro games? Maybe something rare that you bought at a steal of a price.

I went into Target in 2005, and on the clearance table they had 17 copies of Conkers Bad Fur Day for the 64, on clearance for $2.39 each, All sealed in their boxes. I bought all they had.

My Sears Telesports (Atari Pong) I bought for $4, and My 1972 Magnavox Oddysey I paid $110US for but its complete with every thing in excellent condition.

I couldnt beleive my luck, I sold them all on ebay, most went to UK buyers, I think all ended up over $80+ postage.

Its amazing what you can find at target, I think they sold their last orange N64 console last year for $79. Wish I bought it. Went into target last week and they had 2 copies of Losangles olympic Games, pc game. (required windows 3.11) for sale "Was $89 Now $29.95" I dont think it would work on any newer computers. I would have bought them if they where cheaper and their boxes had of been in better condition.

I got Eternal Darkness when I bought my Cube for $1, does that count?

I picked up Zelda: Minish Cap for the GBA in the bargain bin at Myer for only $15, am pretty happy about that!

My dad picked up some racing game for the SNES for $7 a couple of months ago, nothing special, but he had to take it back and exchanged it about three times because the battery packs inside them had died, and they were unplayable. It's a shame to think that these old games won't live forever. Is there some way to replace the battery packs inside them?

Yeah, there is a way of replacing the inside batteries. I have the right tools. You need specially designed tools. There are two types, one for the cartridge and one for the console. I think it's just one of those standard backup batteries you see on motherboards and other things. It's about the size of a 20cent coin.

nice one. I was going to say, I got my dreamcast, around 60 games, 3 controllers, 2 memory cards for $100. It was cheap at the time, it still is now, considering the console alone with a controller sells for $100 on ebay.

Yeah, that's a good price. Depending on the games and condition, you should fetch between $20-$50.

I wonder what it is with Target?

I love going to opshops looking for 1980s Video game books, ether Fictional or Guides, they are always dirt cheap. Recently I picked up a 1985 large book on Computer Adventure games for $1, Must have every Adventure game pre 1985, with screen shots, detailed maps ect.

That's awesome. Im sure that it would be worth a whole lot of money now!

I just realised, i score the legend of Zelda, Windwaker for gamecube for FREE, it was from a friend. He was given a box of random junk. It's the double disc version as well.

Target is pretty good like that. I found K-mart was awesome for gamecube games as well, that was before the Wii came out. Alot of business now see a new life for gamecube games, so they are still trying to flog them.

I would feel strange going into op shops, trying to find cheap games. Maybe that's just me. I actually do have a book call "Videogame History". Nice, thick book full of games and consoles. It's a modern book. I think i shelled out $40 for it.

A couple of excellent Video game books I have bought are,

The Ultimate History of Video Games (available from amazon.com) Real good indepth book about the companies and stuff. Interviews with all the major people in the industry. Talks about the Mafia involvement, Booms, Busts...ect

High Score (available from amazon) This is more of a coffee table book, but great full colour picture through out. and interesting information.

Hey, do you ever buy the "Retro Gamer" magazine. It's a good read. Not all news agents have it, mainly because it's an imported magazine from England.

Yep, I have a few issues, I would buy it more, but I cant justify paying $14 for a magazine. I think in the currant issue they list all the retro video game systems. Its ether $14 on a magazine or use the money for gaming memorabilia.
