Wii Hardware \ Does the Wii take advantage of faster SD cards?

I need to buy a SD card for my Wii. Sandisk have 3 different types of SD cards, (SD, Ultra II and Extreme III). Ultra II has a read speed of 10Mb/sec, Extreme III has a read speed of 20 Mb/sec.

What speed does the Wii read and write to SD cards at?

Those faster SD cards are way more expensive, I think they are designed for top end digital cameras, I use a Sandisc and some tightass brand from hongkong and they both load up pretty quick.

It makes sense that the faster spec cards will work, they can always write and read at slower speeds. But does the Wii read and write to the faster cards quicker than the standard cards?

It is no big deal, I'm just curious.

1.0 supports up to 66x
1.1 supports up to 133x
not sure what 2.0 supports

1.0 is the most common standard. If the Wii only supports 1.0, then you'd be better off spending money on higher capacity than higher speed.

Cannot find what spec the Wii complies with though.

It depends heavily on the brand and quality of SD cards. My 1GB TOSHIBA SD Card gets written to by the Wii at the same speed my laptop does.

SDHC, even if the Wii supported them, would not change speed. SDHC is SD High Capacity, meaning higher capacity, not speed.
