Being a PC gamer since before I had a Playstation (the big grey kind!), I see no difference in ease-of-use between a PC and a console — to me it's just install, set graphics options to EXTREME, BABY and rock on. Even patches are just three-click installs these days. The only multiplayer connection issues I've had are the ones that appear on consoles as well: lag and time-out, and controls in PC games within the same genre don't change radically. Unreal Tournament plays like Quake 3, plays like Call of Duty 2, plays like STALKER.
The best games aren't exclusively on consoles, but consoles are popular because, as you said, they are the cheapest way to play new games. When I start a family I'm sure I'll have to cut back radically on PC gaming, or give it up altogether.
