i guess it`s possible? but virus` are specificly designed to stuff up your computer. it`s design could have a random affect on a console? but if a wii that`s on line is affected, how would you know? you`d just think your wii is playing up & nothing else?

I dont think so. It would be like a macintosh platform getting a virus.

Also Wii doesn't really have an upgradable operating system so I think it would be quite hard for someone to develop a virus.

There are some computer savvy people on this forum, I wonder what they think?

Does the Xbox have virus problems?

If any console is a target its that one.

It has a CPU, does it? I see.

Listen, devices don't get sick, their programming or instructions are simply changed. If your PC gets a virus, as a last resort you can simply get a new hard drive. The only way a device can get a 'virus' from the internet is if a malicious program is run. Unless you are using Internet Explorer on your PC, even visiting malicious websites will not infect your computer unless you specifically download and run viruses.

In the case of Wii, Wii is automatically pointed towards Nintendo's servers when looking for firmware updates and downloadable content. Nintendo will not use a product as a virus carrier.

The only immediately obvious way to put malware on a Wii would be through firmware updates, Virtual Console games or new channels. I suspect the only good way would be through releasing fake firmware, because I doubt VC games or downloadable channels change Wii firmware, and the worst they could do would probably be freeze the Wii up or clear saved games or something.

Hey man, I only said last resort. Like, "I have only one day off and I must play STALKER for twenty hours straight" type emergencies. It was only to explain that the HDD is the component that gets 'sick'.

Not that my computer has a virus and I will play STALKER for twenty hours.
