so i got to see one running last night. at an ubisoft promo night (all of the games there were sequels, nice work ubisoft).

anyways they were running the exact same game side by side (i think it was ace squadron or fighter squadron) with a 360. and the 360 was pwning it. texture wise they were about equal, maybe a little bit better on the ps3. but the ps3 was lagging like a bitch. everytime any action happened on screen like an explosion or something, the frame rate would drop so far it wasn't funny, made playing the game really annoying.

oh and it's ****ing ugly as hell, even worse in real life, if you squint it looks like a george foreman grill

I don't understand why it was lagging. Could it be the game was not optimized for PS3?

The situation with PS3 is definitely worrying... I sure hope Sony can fix their mistake somehow. PS3 would've done so much better if it wasn't for Blu-Ray... but then again, Blu-Ray COULD save the PS3 if it wins the DVD format war.

the problem for sony is that xbox 360 is so well entrenched and has great games and graphics. despite the playstation brandname, it'll be difficult to convince people they *need* a ps3 when the 360 is so much cheaper and so well featured, and when the ps3 is a THOUSAND dollars. bluray means crap all to australian consumers.

sony really needs MGS4 and FFXIII... but at a 1000 dollars i don't know if even those games will help shift serious numbers.

The majority of launch titles for the PS3 are ports of X360 games. As such, the games graphics can only be as good as the limitations of the console they were originally designed, and secondly, any port of a game will suffer in terms of frame rate and polygon count as a result of the software running on an unoptimised hardware architecture.

ALL of the games I've seen that are on PS3 and Xbox 360 look better on the 360. PS3 fans whine that the powers of the PS3 have not been "unlocked", "But..but, it has the Cell!" etc.. That is totally irrelevant when comparing games that are out NOW. It does not matter that the 360 had a head start. Sony should of not gone with Blu-Ray and their systems would of been out there much earlier.

Gears of War is way ahead of Resistance graphically, several games have frame rate issues, etc.

Apart from Sony's dodgy practices, the other thing that annoys me is their lame catch-phrase marketing terms.

PS2 - Emotion Engine
PS3 - Cell, Reality Synthesizer... a multi-core CPU and Nvidia GPU

looks like the RRP for ps3 games will be $120. Of course you will be able to get them cheaper (not from EB!) but perhaps not that much cheaper. maybe for $95-$100, considering the RRP for wii games is $100 and JB were selling at $79 (21% discount).

Edit. Some games have a RRP of $100, but it looks like a majority (from what i can see..3rd party perhaps) will be $120.
