Do you have more than one PC in your home? If so, making a wireless network is a good investment. Make sure your modem has an ethernet port (buy a new one if it doesn't) then buy a wireless router. It took me about four hours to set up my network, and it only took that long because the manual was written in Technical and barely told me that I HAD TO LET THE ROUTER ACCEPT DHCP.
And I thought I'd cooked my hardware in that heat.
