Some games have a lot of sequels. It's a fact that bothers some people. Looking back at some of the more successful franchises it seems that often the fourth game in the series is the one to watch out for.

Some examples:

Super Mario Bros, SMB2, SMB3 then Super Mario World

Legend of Zelda, Zelda 2, Link to the Past then (Depending on whether your counting handheld entries its either Link's Awakening for the Gamboy colour or) Ocarina of Time

Metroid, Metroid 2, Super Metroid and then Metroid Prime

Resident Evil, RE2, RE3 then Resident Evil 4

Grand Theft Auto, GTA2, GTA3 and then GTA IV

Donkey Kong Country, DKC2, DKC3 and then Donkey Kong 64

Super Mario Kart, Mario Kart 64, Double Dash and then Mario Kart Wii

Cool huh? As an added bonus some the 5ths and 6th entries are pretty cool too. Feel free to add some more fourths or cite some examples of fourth game crapolah syndrome.

Yeah COD4 ranks up there, Grand Turismo 4 was great and 5 looks awesome. Street Fighter 4 looks good and I can't wait to play that.

It's shame movies don't work out the same.

The point is Oot was the 4th Zelda console game, DK64 was the 4th console game... etc. I wasn't counting handhelds. I'm not out to find a mathematical equation for finding a good game (or to try and make myself look smart by pointing out amazing facts) I'm just making some light hearted Monday morning discussion.

I mean if we're getting technical here, you're not really a drunk fly now are you?

Oh and Metroid Fusion was freakin' awesome anyway, although I personally thought Zero Mission improved on the formula yet again.

vice city, san andreas and the other two dont count towrd the numbered gtas
rockstar went to the capcom school of numbering (have a look at the resident evil games)

Metroid Fusion was actually Metroid 4, which wasn't too significant. Good game, but not as impacting as OOT or GTA IV.
